18th street is not unsafe, but is a “party street” that gets full of drunk people on weekend nights. It’s loud, and there can be unsafe behaviors exhibited. There was a recent slew of businesses and residences having their windows smashed on 18th street and surrounding areas so I’d be wary of ground floor apartment units.

The area is very walkable, though. Very close to lots of restaurants and parks. Not very close to metro but lots of busses go through the neighborhood.
