Came here to point this out. Something tells me Putin wouldn't mind sacrificing a couple million Russians in a war of attrition. If nothing else it probably makes him look more badass in front of his Russian supporters. The longer the war drags on the more harm is done to Ukraine state the longer it takes you can't Ukraine to recover afterwards the less useful Ukraine would be as a NATO Ally. Not saying this is definitely what happens but I don't see the wisdom in ruling this out.

On the flip side the longer the war takes the more Ukraine will be useless to Russia. It'd be even worse cuz the rebuilding and continued insurrection activity will be a huge liability. The way I see it, the longer this war goes on Russia becomes less likely to take Kiev and/or win the war. So ya I don't think nuking is even an option for Russia, it's either win conventionally or pull out completely. Ukraine will not accept giving an inch of ground to Russia.
