$20/Month for a ☑️

Elong using the old school sus service charge.

Gotta laugh at Twitter Karens having meltdowns about this charge tho…

24

MyLifeIsDope69 t1_iuiqm0x wrote

Dude celebrities make many thousands per tweet promo. He could easily charge a $100k annual membership to the higher tier celebs based on follower account, make a cascading tier you pay based on followers down to the lowest rung maybe being $20.

It's so easy to turn this into a cash cow because the people making millions off their audiences would obviously pay for it since the ROI is still massive for them

6

pigsgetfathogsdie t1_iuitdi1 wrote

Believe it or not…

Many celebs are the biggest Twitter Karens about this charge.

I agree they could pay much more than $20/month…

Maybe Elong can lauch a platinum ☑️ and charge celebs $20K/month?

6

MyLifeIsDope69 t1_iuitt5v wrote

They'll bitch and moan then their finance manager will tell them to pay up because it's worth it. At least how I see it going down. Having that type of reach to your audience is pretty priceless and Twitter is the best means for quick short form messages to everyone that can be shared easily. Instagram and Facebook don't let them hit their followers in quite the same way.

Alt services don't stand a chance due to network effect Elon would have to really piss off everyone if it's just a few they can't really move effectively plus Parlor and those don't have the servers for massive amounts of people I don't think

4

FlatOutUseless t1_iuj89be wrote

Those marks are to prevent impersonation. Right now Twitter is assumed reliable for check marks. They will lose value if people won’t want to get them.

RUSebist t1_iujd74c wrote

I don't think enough people understand this, remove the checkmark's and all you'll get is more chaos, more scamming and even less ad money

MillennialToast0 t1_iugv279 wrote

Lol how can there be 1 million verified users who will pay when there are no more than 300k verified users period?

Out of the 300k verified users right now I guarantee you there won't be more than 15-20% who will pay. So that's what, 60k*240=14.4 million dollars a year? Far cry from your 240 million.

imregrettingthis t1_iugmp4l wrote

The likelier is that when the majority of people don't want to pay $20 there will be another network that comes and becomes popular. Twitter is popular because of it's userbase. If it loses a portion of that the people who are willing to pay follow.

We are about to find out.

3

h1g440rs3 t1_iugxf6p wrote

You’re talking like a huge nerd. Twitter has cultural significance you can’t just replace that overnight. And you really think people won’t pay to get verified when they pay for Spotify, Netflix, and any other subscription service? Clout is the only form of currency in social media and to most verified accounts, that would be a business expense.

−1

MillennialToast0 t1_iuho38l wrote

Lol so why aren't there more than 300k total verified users right now, when it's free? That's less than 1% of daily active users. That number isn't going to suddenly drastically increase "for clout" especially now that you have to pay for that "clout". It's absurd.

2

h1g440rs3 t1_iuhv6m3 wrote

Who knows what the criteria to be verified is. Maybe Elon will update the t&a

1

imregrettingthis t1_iuhyg6t wrote

Lol. Why does it need to be overnight. Twitter currently doesn’t turn a profit.

If they don’t get to that it doesn’t matter how long they take it will fail. It can be a slow bleed ans I can still be right.

Silly.

2

h1g440rs3 t1_iuielys wrote
