Apologies if this is super specific for this page, but I cannot seem to find a good place for spaetzle, schnitzel, or most importantly currywurst and I am at my wits end finding one.

Nice tip! Never really looked at the resorts options.

Derby Line Village Inn has really really good authentic Austrian cuisine. The chef is from there

Bier Hall at Trapps in Stowe is pretty darn good. It’s Austrian technically though 🤷🏻♂️
Now THAT is tantalizing. Great reason to visit the NEK more too. Thank you!!
I haven’t been there yet but I’ve heard amazing things.
Two sides of the same coin there. Thank you!
Edit: I am talking about the food, NOT the people. The foods are similar in nature.
Countryman's Pleasure in Mendon specializes in Bavarian foods (spaetzle, schnitzel, sauerbraten). I think they are closed for a remodel, though.
Specializing in spaetzle is so rare. I am looking forward to patronizing them.
The schnitzel at Pauline's in South Burlington is top-notch.
New German restaurant called Browan just opened in Arlington last week. I’ve heard good things.
We're looking forward to checking this place out. Their other location in mass looks great!
Second Von Trapps for sure- all of their food is excellent, big fan of the chicken schnitzel and the sausage plate, their spatzle is solid as are the mashed potatoes with sauerkraut. i always take home some of their homemade mustard too
I’m so glad someone asked this question. German cuisine is one of the things that I’ve missed since I moved here. Unfortunately, I live in southeast Vermont, and none of the establishments mentioned are in this area.
Austrian people get pretty annoyed being asked if they’re German in my experience. For the reasons
The Student Prince in Springfield MA might be an option for you.
Das sind Kampfworte!

In college, we used to go that one on Church St. I cant remember the name but I believe its closed now.
Mostly because they know they’re more German than the Germans.
Das Beer House… RIP
Verzeihung :(
Das Bierhaus? They've been gone a while, but the Turkish Kebab House that took it's place is pretty rad.
Excellent suggestion. Thank you.
I second the Derby Line Inn. Great Austrian food. But be aware that it might it not be around much longer. I heard that the chef is looking to sell the place and retire. He is courting a new owner, but it's unclear if it will continue its Austrian fare.
It's quite excellent!
I have my own spätzlehobel at home. It’s really easy and fun to make yourself, can get kind of messy though.
Been to the one in mass (Somerville) can confirm it is delicious, and true to real German food. Their spaetzle is fantastic
Don’t forget Munich Haus in Chicopee, a little closer. Owned by the old head chef from The Student Prince. Both places are excellent - my wife prefers Munich Haus, I prefer The Student Prince.
Zomg my family is excited to make a day trip out of this! We love German food and we can go to the Derby Line library.
I live nearby and am definitely going to head there soon. The menu looks fantastic.
You should try to make if! It's just flour eggs water and salt and you can but a spaetzle maker for like 20$ on Amazon. Takes no time at all!
I'm three years into living in Vermont and gave up on a lot of the foods I enjoyed pretty quickly - with German food being the most painful loss. Von Trapp's is good, but doesn't scratch the itch the places in Florida did - it's more expensive and has a more uptight feeling to it. I'd love some spaetzle, currywurst, and a doner kebab, but I find that I have to go out of state to get those things. I understand that you can get those things fairly reliably in Montreal - but haven't explored that yet.
A new place that specializes in German food just opened in or near Arlington
The main restaurant is pretty good too.
For breakfast, they replicate the typical spread you will find at an Austrian Alpine hotel better than anywhere else I've found in the US.
Bronwyn on the Battenkill
Edit: Speaking of Arlington there is a spaetzle maker just a few doors down! They sell at local shops. Look in the frozen/fridge section
Christoph Waltz has some thoughts about how Austrians and Germans differ:
(starting at about 1:00)
Try the Von Trapp beirhall for a less formal vibe.
And if you are lucky, Chef Fritz will come out and play his accordion for you.
It's also possible to just make it with a colander or grater with big holes! Not quite as convenient, but it saves one from having to buy a specialty kitchen object, which is something I personal find beneficial.
True true I agree with your position on the one trick kitchen ponies. But, I was too uncoordinated or something for that colander trick and now we eat kinda a lot of spaetzle (had a Hungarian grandmother) so it worked out for us.
That makes sense! I usually only make 1-2 portions at a time so it's not been an issue, but if it's something you make regularly or in large quantities then it's worth the drawer space!
Their food is amazing! Well worth the trip.
The Haskell library in Derby Line is unique place. The Derby village inn is just down the road.
I was chatting with an older guy with an obvious German accent on the hill yesterday. I asked, in German, if he was German. He cutely said he was Austrian, and I profusely apologized in German. Because reasons.
