I’m a recent transplant and am struggling to find resources for my hair. I’ve been managing, but school makes it difficult to find time to do my hair myself consistently, so I’m hoping to find places to get longer term protective styles done (box braids, sew-in, crochet, etc.) with stylists proficient in doing natural 4c hair so I can focus less on my hair this semester.

I don’t really have any black girls at work or in my program to ask about hair, so I’m hoping someone here can help! I’ve tried searching myself, but I’m not having the best luck finding places and in my experience asking other people for recommendations has gotten me better results.

I’m just outside of Burlington, but I’m willing to drive if the stylist is good. 😊

Thanks in advance!

I’d be shocked if Burlington or Winooski didn’t have a spot that’s run by or focuses on hair for people of color. Maybe try /r/Burlington? They might have some more info and good suggestions

I’m not sure but I once had a woman stop her car in the street and offer to do my daughters hair. There are that few people doing it that she stopped to let us know she did it.

There is HairRus on North st. in Burlington. It is a hair supply place but if you ask them, I bet they can recommend you a stylist in the area.

I take my daughter (17 - biracial) to Boston for braiding. Everything else she does herself.

In all honesty, you're probably going to have to go to another state. I live in the southern part of the state and my friends usually go to Springfield, MA, for supplies and other hair care.

I'm not familiar with upstate New York, but I'd google around Plattsburgh and see what's the what. If all else fails, Montreal?

If you're doing Ayurvedic hair care ala CurlyProverbz, I can help you out with that!

ETA: Why the downvotes tho XD

CurlyProverbz is on yt, her hair care is all Ayurvedic, but stuff that's easily gettable. You probably already have a lot of it in your kitchen! She's fabulous!

I do my own hair and I buy any products I can’t find locally online. I recently went to my home state for the holidays and I went to a natural hair salon for a trim. I plan to use out of state trips as a chance to do any necessary cuts/trims/upkeep at a natural hair salon.

If you are not having luck. Next level barber shop could be a place to ask. The guys there likely won’t be able to do your hair but they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Why did you need to say that?

OP said they're willing to drive, the poster here specified it's in NY, Plattsburgh is a reasonable distance from certain Vermont towns.

Everyone here is just trying to help, no need to laugh at them.
