Our late model car failed because the check engine light was on. We are retired and on a fixed income. The dealer wanted $250 minimum just to diagnose. We let it slide for a year then took it in. It was something, something, oil change. Ridiculous that folks get a fail for something that doesn’t effect safety of driving. I feel bad for folks these days. It’s hard enough as it is. Check engine light, SMH.

Just a heads up to anyone reading this, if you get a CEL you can generally go to an auto parts store (e.g. Autozone) and they'll read+clear the light for you
