As much as I love my Forester, it seems like plug-in hybrids (if not full electric) are the way of the future.

What have people’s experiences been with RAV4s? Does Honda make something like this (are there even any in VT?).

I do live in Vermont. I’m just not a car guy. I don’t live on a Class 4 road, but I like to take them to get where I’m going, with a bunch of stuff in the back besides.

What’s out there?

I love my rav 4 prime, but good luck finding one. I get about 50 miles electric. There's a sub if you wanna research the car specifically /r/rav4prime

Subaru Crosstrek? Sportier than a Forester.

Not much for EV options due to availability right now. I think Subaru is coming out with an all electric one next year but your options are kind of limited to some expensive Audi/VW models that are SUV types. I'm not endorsing Ford but the Lighting seems nice at a better price than other EVs available. Plus you can use it as a generator for your house, tools, etc.

For electric options:

Tesla Model Y AWD

VW ID.4 AWD

Subaru Solterra

Kia EV6 AWD

Ford Mustang Mach-E AWD

Chevy Bolt EUV FWD

Rav 4 are nice but they don’t drift great in the snow at all.

Volvo XC40 Recharge. There are fully electric and hybrid models. I traded my Forester in for a full electric XC40 Recharge, and I do really like it. The biggest downside was the price bc they are expensive, but I'm able to tow up to 2000# and it has AWD. It's not quite a Subaru, but it is still decent on the winter roads.

Ford Escape plug-in - not as good as the RAV4 but still eligible for the 7500 tax credit unlike the Toyota.

I used to have a 2015 Impreza hatch (same car as the Crosstrek, w/o the off-road aesthetic body cladding and a bit closer to the ground), and a 2015 Forester at the same time. The Impreza did not impress me at all, even though it was a much higher trim level. When it came time to cut back and sell one of our vehicles it was the Impreza that we said goodbye to and kept the Forester — we love our Forester.
