Hi all, I was just laid off from my remote position and I am looking for a job in the Middlebury area. I moved here with my girlfriend in June and we'll be living here for the foreseeable future. I was previously an electrician and I have some limited management and sales experience.

I came across some job openings at Collins Aerospace in Vergennes and I am wondering if any reddit folks work there as an assembly or quality technician. How do you like it? What is the pay like? Any additional info you can offer?

For reference, I am looking for an absolute minimum salary of $50K/year.

Additionally, if anyone knows of any employment that I may fit into from my super limited description, please let me know and I can send my resume!

Thanks!

I know some folks who had worked there and I think it was less that $20/hr for an assembler before the pandemic. I remember them saying it was pretty strict since it's a government contractor and there was an incentivized policy of ratting out co-workers who were violating safety rules. I did some HVAC work there and they were super strict about OSHA, color coded aisles, anti-static jackets, etc. The on-site cafeteria was pretty good though.

When you say you were an electrician what does that mean? Apprentice? Journeyman?

I think the post their positions on Indeed. Also don't forget that Middlebury College doesn't post all it's jobs on external job sites, so don't forget to check here

If you were an electrician before, and didn’t hate it, you can get a job as an electrician (apprentice, journeyman, whatever)that will pay well. Huge demand for skilled trades in VT.

No licensure. 3.5 years of experience doing basically everything residential including new services, service upgrades up to parallel fed 400a. Its something I am considering, but not my top choice.

Why not continue as an electrician locally? There is huge demand for trades and you can make more than $50k.
