Information on Rutland Quarry/Marble Street Quarry?

Hey yall, I was looking into marble quarries because a friend told me a cool story about one and I like the idea of finding one in person. Some famous ones listed included Rutland Quarry just south of Burlington.

I’ve never been and am interested in going as I live a few hours away in New York. Does anyone know if you can still see the quarry itself? It seems like the place was sold in the 70s and beyond that not much info. Doesn’t seem like there are tours?

The quarries near barre, rock of ages, etc, there’s hiking paths that go all along the top of them, incredible views, some still active. Barre Town Forest. You wanna hike to the southwest of the parking area toward the quarry-lakes on the map.

It’s not just south of Burlington. It’s 2 hours south of Burlington. Dorsey quarry is cool too, but only in the summer. I know of a bunch in Fair Haven as well, because we all went swimming there after school. They’re now privately owned, though.

You can walk through the remains of the old marble factory, but the quarry itself is filled with water now

There’s a really cool one of redstone in Burlington. Go the the end of Hoover street off Shelburne Road. It’s small, but geologically interesting.

Proctor and West Rutland were where some of the bigger marble quarries were. They’re still very much so accessible in West Rutland. I grew up there and spent considerable time there playing around the quarries as a kid.

Feel free to DM me with any questions. It’s not near Burlington though. No marble quarries are as far as I know, it’s more slate as your get closer to there. Proctor and West Rutland are about 2 hours south of Burlington in the central-south portion of the state

It’s not marble, but you can always come up to Isle La Motte and explore the old Fisk Quarry, which is filled with fossils. Neat spot.

There's an old natural cave made of marble on top of mount Aoelus in East Dorset. There is also abandoned marble quarries on the slopes of mount Netop. You can visit them still
