Do yourself or anyone you 'like' a huge favor and send them anywhere else but Chimney Sweep Shop. At least they are consistently bad, and not just 'occasionally'. I realize good help is hard to find, but honestly, if I had to rely on their product or service to get me through winter, I'd have frozen to death. Just terrible service- consistently.

They have an impressive number of one-star reviews on Google. That said, I had a pleasant and smooth interaction with them when purchasing a hearth pad (with delivery) and later, a door latch assembly that I bought from them and installed myself. Sounds like my experience is in the minority.

They are wonderful BEFORE the sale.. Expect zero service after the sale. I'm still waiting for them to come back to fix my expensive gas insert since Thanksgiving. If it wasn't for the Heat Pump I put in two years ago, we would have been quite a bind. How they stay in business is a complete mystery to me.

Interesting. I bought a Hearthstone wood stove from them twoish years ago. Zero issues with the purchase, delivery, or installation. Haven’t had to use them for service, and probably never will, I’ll go get the parts from Morrisville if I had to. I have definitely heard bad stories about their service side of the business

I've purchased two Hearthstone wood stoves from them, but they never needed anything other than an occasional firebrick replaced. However, I converted to a gas insert since I'm gone a lot and needed something that would not need 'feeding', plus the price of wood skyrocketed. The $$$$ gas unit has not worked consistently since the first winter. Never stays lit, always a hassle and CSShop doesn't really care. The 'one' time I had a competent technician (Damien?) show up, it still never stayed working thorough the winter. So now, it's been disassembled since Thanksgiving and I've called and called. They say, oh the part just came in... then NOTHING.. If I can ever get them to come back and re-assemble it, I will take them to court if they try to bill me. I've been told about a place in Williston (not the flag shop), that is competent. I'll give them a shot next time. It's pretty frustrating and there is so little competition in VT.

I hear ya. Do you mind sharing what brand your gas insert was? My first house had a Jotul gas insert that was older, and it was reliable as a rock. I went for wood since I have plenty of wood on my property and propane prices can really get you, but I totally understand your reasoning for the switch. There are a few other places out there, Blazing Designs maybe? And there is one off Marshall Ave in Williston. Haven’t dealt with VT Stove and Flag, either.

Absolutely agree. My builder recommended them so I stopped in to check out fireplaces nearly a year ago. Ordered the unit shortly thereafter. They ‘mostly’ got it right…actually not really.

Despite being provided all the necessary details on our design/installation when I placed the order, they’ve been to the house twice to finish the install and STILL don’t have all the parts so a third trip (or more considering their track-record) is going to be needed to get it finished.

Can’t imagine needing service on the unit. They’ve been incredibly unreliable thus far so I doubt the service will be any better.

Also tried to contact them regarding porch heaters and my call was never returned. Guess their interest in selling items is similar to their installation…negligible.

Thankfully I haven’t crossed this bridge yet, and a lot of stoves use universal parts for things like bricks, gaskets, etc. This is good to know. I’m not above fabricating stuff I need to work, but I prefer to use the OEM stuff
