that’s honestly really interesting to think about, a foreign language being documented for the first time.

I was told - by an Albanian, that there is no word in the language for "privacy". Thought that was interesting. Does anyone know if this is true?

Did you purposely turn "crying" into "yelling" into the title for clicks?

OP's linked wikipedia article is really interesting. The point in the article to which OP links is talking about theories of the evolution of the language. It is a cool area of scholarship about which I knew almost nothing.

It looks like the word intimitet is their noun word for privacy. However I feel like what the Albanian might mean is that their concept of privacy is different to that of the West. However considering they follow the EU standard of GDPR, I would say that it is likely similar.

Wasn’t it Illyrian earlier until Ottoman times

The first time I read about this, it was "shouting". I figured that "crying" here was translated from some word that meant "crying out" and could mean either shouting or crying.

Albanian is very likely a remnant of the Illyrian(or perhaps Thracian or Paeonian instead) language, but we lost the connecting branch between the Illyrians before the fall of Rome and the sudden emergence of the Albanians in the 12th century.

Most likely this is just because the Greek and Latin speakers of coastal Illyria didn't have a reason to talk about the highlanders or the records were lost.

Older than I expected.

>The first attested written mention of the Albanian language was on 14 July 1284 in Ragusa in modern Croatia (Dubrovnik) when a crime witness named Matthew testified: "I heard a voice crying on the mountain in the Albanian language"
