The two worked in the same office at Warner Bros. Animation and developed interesting personalities that the other staff had picked up on; Ruegger said that Minton seemed to be always scheming to take over the world, while Fitzgerald comedically agreed with him, injecting nonsense words like "Narf" and "Egad" around the office. The gag credit for the Tiny Toon Adventures episode "You Asked For It" credits Eddie Fitzgerald as "Guy Who Says 'Narf'". Series producer Peter Hastings described Eddie by saying, "He always greeted you like you were wearing a funny hat – and he liked it."

During the development of Animaniacs, animator Bruce Timm drew caricatures of Minton and Fitzgerald, and Ruegger then added mouse ears and noses to the drawing, cementing the concept for Pinky and the Brain. The Fitzgerald/Minton connection to Pinky and the Brain is shown in the episode "The Pinky and the Brain Reunion Special".Two characters shown as writers for Pinky and the Brain cartoons within the short are caricatures of Fitzgerald and Minton.

What a great description!

I recall in the audio commentary the conversation The Brain and Marv Albert had was pretty much how Maurice LaMarche and Steven Spielberg interacted.

Spielberg: you play The Brain right?

Maurice :. Yes

Spielberg (trying to imitate the Brain): yes!

Maurice (acting as the Brain): yes!

Spielberg (trying again):. Yes!

Maurice (repeating to help Spielberg): yes!

Spielberg (trying again): Yes

Maurice: ok bye bye

And of course the peas episode of Pinky & The Brain is just Maurice reciting the Orson Welles commercial. When he does that bit live he uses the more inappropriate working 😂

Apparently Maurice was so delighted at the opportunity to reenact the infamous "frozen peas" bit that there were tears in his eyes.

I didn't know about the peas thing until I rad your comment. Just went to YT and watched both the P&TB bit and the original Orson Welles takes, and cracked up. Thanks for this!

Sure Brain, but where are we going to find a cuttlefish that can play the bagpipes at this time of night?

I asked GPT to come up with original ones:
I think so, Brain, but if we put wheels on the chicken, wouldn't it be called a skate-a-Roost?
I think so, Brain, but if we put a mustache on the Mona Lisa, will it become a hipster icon?
I think so, Brain, but can you really make a suit out of bubble wrap?
I think so, Brain, but how do you train a squirrel to use a toilet?
I think so, Brain, but is it ethical to use a T-Rex as a vacuum cleaner?
I think so, Brain, but isn't it dangerous to play hopscotch on a tightrope?
I think so, Brain, but what's the point of having a pet rock if it can't fetch?
I think so, Brain, but if we put a tutu on a bulldozer, would it still be able to clear the land?
I think so, Brain, but if we replaced all the traffic lights with disco balls, would people still know when to stop?
I think so, Brain, but if we replaced all the books in the library with bags of chips, would people still learn?
I think so, Brain, but how can we make a suit out of jelly beans without getting sticky?
I think so, Brain, but wouldn't a unicorn horn make a terrible chopstick?
I think so, Brain, but why would anyone want to put a bowling ball in a washing machine?
I think so, Brain! But do elephants really need to wear tutus?
I think so, Brain! But isn't the idea of a square circle a bit of a paradox?

I filtered out all the phrases from https://pinkyandthebrain.fandom.com/wiki/Are_You_Pondering_What_I%27m_Pondering%3F
And prefaced with "Consider the following non-sequiturs. Come up with 5 original ones in the same style:"
I ran the generation 10-15 times, taking my favorite out of the bunch each time, as it seemed to bias a specific style of delivery each generation.

I've been saying for years that Brain is the genius, he just lacks common sense. Pinky although insane has common sense. So he sees things likely won't work & just tries to have fun & help his friend.

They didn't do enough research because Brain is absolutely inspired by Orson Welles. His voice is a direct impersonation of him haha. In season 4 they even spoofed a famous outtake of Welles narrating a commercial for frozen peas.

Maurice LaMarche’s performance as Brain was inspired by Orson Welles, but this article is about the initial inspiration for the characters of Pinky and the Brain.
