He was with them from the start and played live with them sometimes but didn’t become an official member until the early 1980s. The last original member that recorded from the start died in 2018.

A long time ago when I worked a lot of concerts it was typical to see facility and artist management together. in room counting cash. I think this was because at the time most ticket sakes were cash. Though in my experience this always happened during the show, not before. I remember Bill Cosby getting $80k per show and doing two a day.

Saw these guys in Gospel at Colonus in 1985 and it was pretty amazing.
Did some googling because I wasn't sure of the date, and was surprised to see Morgan Freeman played the narrator. It's strange to think there was a time I would have seen Morgan Freeman and not remembered it for the rest of my life.
