I would argue that Rap and many other musical genres cannot be traced back to an origin at all. Like most things, they are the sum of many influences over longer periods and are more akin to evolutionary in development than spontaneous appearance.

Bad poetry to rhythmic music has been around a lot longer than 80 years.

Yeah, I remember a TIL that was basically about vikings having rap battles against one another. There was diss track levels of poetry in Rome and other historical societies as well

Personally tho I theorize that all edm music can be traced back to James Brown, due to his use of rhythm and loops

Funk may or may not have been a base for house, it most definitely was for hip-hop: tons of samples were taken from old funk and soul records (the Amen-break being used the most, but Funky drummer and others being not far behind).

EDM is basically modern disco. Disco has strong ties to early R&B. You might be onto something.

Rap can be traced back to rhyming songs from the pre-christian era.

Hip Hop on the other hand was born in the late 70s.-

In the Poetic Edda, Loki's flyting was so insulting to the other gods it sparked ragnarok. Basically a rap battle got out of hand, ending the world.

The first rap song was Night Mail by W.H.Auden performed by John Grierson in 1936, unless anyone can prove otherwise.
