Here is another thing you can learn: America is a continent…. The title of your post hence is a contradiction. So they were first cultivated by mesoamericans (thus Americans) then brought to America again by Joel Poinsett

There isn't a country named America, so OPs post still reads contradictory.

Fun fact: most plant names ending in -ia are named in the honour of someone, usually a botanist, with the first part of the name coming from their family name. Magnolia? A botanist named Magnol. Zinnia? Zinn. Dahlia? Dahl. Begonia? Bégon. (And so on. Petunia being the first exception I could find - petun is a native name for the plant.)

Confusing title. The Aztecs were in the Americas already.

Sigh (Why are Geography teachers so bad?, or Is it the the students that don’t give a duck?).
Anyways, thank you, I, in fact, did not know that poinsettias where originally from America (the continent).

The title is confusing, and I can see it as being a little arrogant to use "America" to refer to the USA, but let's not pretend that it isn't a common thing to do.

Continents are defined by local naming convention rather than any sort of scientific classification, because of this America being two continents and America being a single continent divided into four regions are both equally correct to say. But here in the Americas you will find that the majority of nations teach a single American continent model.
Correcting someone for using a different naming convention than you is like telling a German they are wrong for using a decimal comma instead of a decimal point. It's just different, not more or less correct.

I think you misunderstood, maybe because I was too terse.
First of all, what you said isn't wrong, but considering that the subject here is the confusing nature of the title, being the most precise or using the most precision seems reasonable. That could have avoided a confusing title, after all. You can certainly refer to the American continent, but that can create confusion or ambiguity if you use it incorrectly.
And the reason I pointed that out is that the title isn't confusing because it is a contradiction, due to the point you pointed out, it is confusing because it is ambiguous. The title is referring to two different landmasses or using "America" to refer to only North America and ignoring that the Aztecs were from another (part of) America.
In case that still isn't clear, when u/lectorsito said "brough to America again", there was no "again". They were transported from one place in the Americas, or America, to another place in the Americas.

I was gonna go line by line and respond to all your points. But ita way too much effort for me to go through to placate your desire to defend a single dumb comment you made. Your correction didn't bring either precision or clarity, and it certainly didn't clear up or point anything out at the title, these are all post script justification because your correction was incorrect lol. If America is one or two continents had nothing to do with the point he made, and has nothing to do with the contradiction in the title, it was you just going "um actually" and offering a wrong correction lol. But have a great day mate.

You should actually read what I wrote instead of acting like it is too much effort. Also maybe cut out the gaslight-ey "just post script justification" stuff. You have no place to tell me what I meant, especially if you yourself make it clear that you didn't even read it.
Finally, you saying that my comment was incorrect when "there is no wrong answer" is pretty bizarre.
bougienative t1_iydtgnm wrote
It was incorrect because it was correcting someone over a statement with no correct answer. What was wrong wasn't your local Continental naming convention, but saying that his is wrong.

Wait, do what?
North America, South America, Central America, East America, West America, the Northeast, the Southeast, the South, the Southwest, the Midwest, the Sun Belt, the Bible Belt, the Rust Belt, and Tierra del Fuego.
I count 14
