Well, since we have The Alamo, The Riverwalk, are ground zero for Tex Mex, the 7th Largest City... they have nothing else to get excited about.

It's interesting that they have lights strung on it.

If you were a kid who heard about this during that time, you were certain that this is how you were going to die.

If you are walking along and a bee starts to ram into you there is a definite possibility that it is an Africanized bee. They warn you off before they swarm you.

As I was reading, I was hoping the 10 ft tall statue was of Viggo Mortenson on a mustang.

If you thought Africanized Honey Bees were bad, wait until you hear about the giant Asian hornet, sometimes referred to as “the murder hornet.” These guys can grow up to 2 inches (2.5 cm) and can take out entire honeybee hive in a matter of hours.

Here is a link to a short video about them. Go to the 2:50 mark to get an understanding of just how massive these guys are

Note: the giant Asian hornet is NOT a bee. Hornets and bees are related, but they are not the same.

Yes! I still tell this story from time to time. There was a significant period of my childhood where I was sure the killer bee "invasion" would continue to spread and would be a serious problem for the country. I remember seeing the maps and everything.

Still scared to death of bees, and now that I think of it it's probably because of this.

AFAIK, they were not "released"; they escaped.

A Brazilian scientist was studying them and trying to improve the honey production of non-Africanized bees.
