TIL William McKinley was the 25th president of the United States, serving from 1897 until his assassination in 1901. As a politician he led a realignment that made his Republican Party largely dominant in the industrial states and nationwide until the 1930s. Also, his vice-president was Teddy Roosevelt.

McKinley's was the third Presidential assassination in 36 years (Lincoln in 1865 and Garfield in 1881)

Jesus, as a non-American I thought that the only assassinated American presidents were Lincoln and Kennedy.

I wonder why McKinley and Garfield are not that famous.

Garfield's is understandable because he was only in office a few months when he was shot. But his assassination was a really interesting story. McKinley was well-liked but is a slightly obscure president

Garfield wasn’t very notable otherwise. He also took 2 months to die and likely would have survived if his doctor had better hygienic standards.

We've had a lot of presidents, and as you probably noticed, some of them were pretty dismal.

God I could really go for a dismal boring president right about now.

We have that now.

We went from worst president in history to boring Biden.

It is so nice to have boring again.

Almost 10% of American presidents have been assassinated (4/46).

4 out of 45. While there have been 46 administrations, there have been 45 men who’ve been President, as Grover Cleveland served as both the 22nd and 24th.

That’s not the most interesting thing that happened to a president. One of them got stuck in the bathtub because he was so fat and they somehow got him out and had to buy a bigger tub and replace the tub he got stuck in.

Yup, and all three are covered at length in Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation, though Lincoln's understandably gets the lion's share of her attention.
