Yeah his dad was a religious fruitcake that would randomly dig graves for him, his brother and their mother. His little brother would call him gg because he couldn't pronounce Jesus.

Imagine if GG and Sid linked up together in Vegas for a whiskey, cocaine, and heroine induced weekend.

This guy would take a dump on stage and fling it into the audience and rub it on himself. Dude was certifiably nuts.

Not a punk icon, widely recognised as a disgusting human.

coincidentally that's also what a lot of people would exclaim after seeing him perform

I knew a person who went on some tours with Merle probably ten-fifteen years ago. He claims one night in the van Merle confirmed that GG and himself gave each other head when kids.

I have little doubt there was sexual abuse in the home. Their father was very strange. Isolated the family, would pile snow over the windows so you couldn't look in or our, made them dig graves, constantly talked about a coming apocalypse, and general abuse.

To be clear, I cannot confirm if the things I've been told are true, but it was a good source and someone who had evidence they indeed played gigs with the Merle in the Murder Junkies post GG's death.

I know this if fucked, but I don't think any amount of behavioral intervention could help GG, and I do wonder what would have happened if he did kill himself on Halloween as he said he would for years.

He'd be a lot more legendary if his music wasn't crap.

GG Allin was punk rock music being played by a fucking lunatic. I see him as an extreme version of Sid Vicious: it’s not the music you’re attracted to, it’s the controversy. Whether or not he did what he did solely for attention is anybodies guess, but he sure did get a lot of it.

Now having said that, I don’t think anybody has the right to say what is and isn’t punk. Not trying to start an argument or anything, just trying to add my perspective.

With his whole personality why tf did he change his name? And to Kevin Michael no less. The dude was a punk rocker named Jesus Christ and he gave that up. Unbelievable.

He was a shitty person that was shitty at everything he did and slapped “punk” onto it so he could milk idiots for their cash.

He wasn't really an icon - he was a spectacle. There is nothing enduring about his music, it was his performances distinguished him

GG absolutely was an icon in punk. Hence, here we are arguing about it on Reddit decades after he died.

Whether or not you agree with what he’s done (I’m not a fan) it doesn’t take away from his prominence or influence on the culture.

The punk scene by its very nature attracts fuck ups. Most of its legends were heavily involved in drugs, violence, criminality, etc. Utilising shock in performance has always been a key component.

You sound like a straight up square that wants to sugar coat the history and make it seem like everyone has good intentions and was politically moral

I'm guessing that he wasn't actually born with it.

Most likely it was given to him shortly after birth. Possibly on his birth certificate.
