You mean the things that help us maintain balance and equilibrium? Would make a lot of sense for them to be organized that way considering their function.

This article isn't referring to that part of ear anatomy however.

Interestingly these bones are derived from bones that form gill arches in fish. They got repurposed to form our ear in one of our earliest ancestors!

You may want to re-read the article OP posted then. It talks exclusively about the middle ear and the middle ear bones (which it mentions by name as well). The semi-circular canals are in a different part of the ear and do not appear to have been the bones that used to be attached to the jaw. The pictures are jaw bones.
