Alternate timeline, she recently had surgery and you found a stitch/ staple/ fastener. You shredded and ripped out her uterus or something because for some reason you thought yanking things out of people without saying a single word was a reasonable thing to do.

Case and point, some people think it's perfectly fine to rip things out of people. That's WAY scarier and less defensible than letting someone finger you before you're sure your stitches finished desolving

When you are on your periods, your cervix might be more opened than usual. I remember il r/badwomensanatomy someone posted a "good anatomy" serie of pictures she took of her own cervix during periods, it was instructive. That's also the reason why doctors tell you to get an appointment during your period to put the iud in. That said the pain is different for each person.

Pain levels vary drastically in women's reproductive areas. A simple pap smear has no pain for some women, and is extremely painful for others. An IUD insertion is a minor pinch for some women, and the worst pain of their life for others. It's kind of incredible how bodies vary.

Gavin_the_Gullible t1_ixqxp9k wrote

Lymantria24 t1_ixr4u67 wrote
Well. There are many reasons. 1. It's included in basic sex education. Now i don't know from what country OP comes from, so ill give him the benefit of doubt. 2. You enjoy going without a condom, the least you can do is find out about the way your girlfriend prevents pregnacy and read about it, especially the side effects. 3. He himself should also have interest in it, knowing how high the chances are to get pregnant with the chosen method of his girlfriend. 4. It's just basic knowledge, people talk about it. Like here. I'm sure he knew "kinda" what it meant when his girlfriend told him, so why not take 2 minutes to Google and find out the information?
Alegria-D t1_ixsclge wrote
Imo one more thing is that when you're in a relationship, you should want to know as much as possible about your partner's health, about their symptoms, the conditions they have... I asked my partner if I could see which medicine they take, so I'd be aware if there are bad secondary effects I could spot and warn them about.
Lymantria24 t1_ixsdi85 wrote
Absolutely!! OP is doing less than the bare minimum anyone would do in a truly loving relationship. I hope he either changed or his girlfriend will find someone better. Or maybe they are both like that, I guess it's fine then, haha

Lymantria24 t1_ixr5ri7 wrote
Yeah, I deleted the last 2 sentences, i noticed it too. But I'm still fully behind the rest of what I said. The least you can do is to at least read about this stuff. Women suffer a lot from most of the methods and men tend to just sit there and not bother at all. Or do stupid stuff like you did, causing even more pain.

The wire usually soften overtime and get wrapped up around the cervix (the gaps around it) so they usually stay out of the way. Hubby could feel mine poking at him for the first few months until they settled.
Honestly I am female and knew nothing about these until I got one. They tell you basic stuff in sex ed but most info was around the pill and condoms.

Pissed is an understatement. If I was that girl I would've beaten the daylights out of you. The torture we females go through to get it put in.. the cramping that puts you in the fetal position, the bleeding for 2+ weeks to months.. not to mention the feeling of the metal tools being shoved pretty uncaring into your cervix and uterus with ZERO pain medication.. Ugh.

I feel immensely sorry for anyone who gets an IUD implanted without even an offer of pain medication.
Personally, when I got mine I was told the choice was there to get a local anesthetic. Tried a couple seconds without it, then decided it was a good idea and after the injection felt almost no pain. Maybe how much of an ordeal it is depends on where and by whom it's done?
Can confirm the side effects can be a nightmare, regardless.

It totally depends on who is doing it and who the woman getting it inserted is.
I’m one of the lucky ones. It was relatively easy for me, just mild discomfort.
But holy shit have I read some horror stories. Some sort of sedation/pain relief should be mandatory. You should have to opt out if you don’t want/need it.
Huckleberry_83 t1_ixti8aw wrote
A lot of places apparently think 800mg of ibuprofen is sufficient pain medication to have metal tools shoved not too gently into your uterus. Even more so if your uterus is oddly positioned and the nurse has to press on your gut to move your uterus down so they can push -harder- with the tools to make it fit in there. Most OB/gyn will only do them in office, without pain medication/numbing. Also too, insurance cost is part of it. It's 100% covered.. if you do it without sedation. I paid 1300$ and got my rear knocked out with ketamine and that was the best experience I've had with IUD placements.
maohvixen t1_ixstk20 wrote

Huckleberry_83 t1_ixthh2l wrote
That's good. The first two I had, I was cramping for a month. Bled for at least 3 weeks. Had to do pelvic ultrasounds on already tender parts to verify it was still in place with how bad it was. Third time? I asked to have it placed in the OR. Knocked my butt out with Ketamine and I had zero pain and bleeding. Magical. Going to ask to have it done that way again next time (and hopefully last!)
