This wasn’t today, but recently. I’ll try to keep things vague as to not reveal any personal information about myself or anyone else involved. This is just something driving me crazy and I need to get it off of my chest.

So… we all have heard the saying “your coworkers are not your friends”. The first time I heard that my assumption was that it was about sexual harassment, or workplace violence, or whatever massive thing. But, I’ve learned the hard way that the barebones statement itself is simply the truth.

You see, I’ve been working for this company for 8 months now. I’ve done a lot of changes for it. I started on mornings but switched to overnights to help staffing. I worked three days a week (36 hours), then moved to four days a week (44 hours), then moved to the classic five days a week (40 hours) schedule. I’ve also moved closer, and dealt with the horrors of working security whilst short staffed. Needless to say, I’ve been through a lot and stayed loyal and have continued to do my job well. And the whole time, small things have happened that have slowly made me dislike my boss more and more. Promises being unfulfilled, such as travel time not being compensated, promised raises never happening, things along those lines.

I had one coworker who was on the same page as I, who agreed completely. Her and I would often share our grievances of our boss together to vent. Well during a morning meeting, I heard she quit. So my dumbass says to the whole group of my coworkers, “Yeah I don’t blame her. I would quit too if I had a better job lined up. (Boss’s name) has never made me feel so disrespected and unlistened to.”

I was met with awkward silence, and a few people said things along the lines of “Oh that’s normal for bosses.” And “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.” Anywho, when I left the meeting , I thought nothing else of it.

That was until I saw my boss in the office when I arrived for my next shift. Which is abnormal considering that I work overnights. Sure enough, those present at the meeting had told him everything I said. He had a long discussion, or more so him speaking without giving me the chance to, with me. We cleared things up between us to my knowledge.

But ever since then, the day crew has felt distant and cold from me. We used to joke around and be friendly, but now they barely spare me a glance and a conversation. I don’t know what spread around between them, but they all avoid me like the plague. It feels terrible, I feel like I’ve become a villain or something.

TL;DR: I told my coworkers I am unhappy with my boss, they told my boss and since then my coworkers have been avoiding me like the plague

Kinda sounds like they are doing you a favor by avoiding you? Why would you want to talk and joke with people that immediately rush to tell the boss the second you say something negative?

They probably feel guilty they ratted you out to the boss.

Too much drama. Keep your opinions to yourself unless someone else tells worse tails in private and you truly trust them. Talking like that in meeting level is workplace suicide where I work. You never really know where the alliances are. Backstabbers are in every line of work. I always view all my coworkers with this possibility unless we are truly friends outside of work, and even then I'm guarded. Good luck

Shit, I first read this too quickly and saw “such as time travel not being compensated” and thought you have the best job ever
