There are many characters who are key parts of shows, but who never actually appear. I was just watching Frasier and thinking how completely essential and entertaining Maris is as a character, despite the fact she is never actually shown. Obviously this is primarily because Niles is the main person who interacts with and describes her, and obviously David Hyde Pierce is incredible, and his delivery and descriptions of Maris is hilarious.
Made me wonder, what other characters are not actually on screen, but are key parts of the show?
