I was already pretty high on Primal after the first season, but the beginning of the 2nd season just blew my mind that I had to share my feelings with all you people who never asked for it: I just saw the 4th episode called 'Red Mist'. Whoever was part of creating that episode deserves all of those big tv prizes, because that was one of the strongest 20+ minutes of animation I have ever seen.
For those who are unfamiliar with the show, this is an animated series created by Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack) and follows a neanderthal and a tyrannosaurus rex and their every day struggle in a fantasy pre-historic setting. There is no (understandable) spoken language in the series, everthing is told through the animation itself. So this is a show where you can't really look at your phone every 5 minutes, because you can't follow it by only listening.
I don't think you will want to look at your phone though, so don't worry.
Primal looks incredible. I already liked the art style, so that was always going to be a plus for me. However the animals and the scenery and the action scenes, well I can't put it in more fancier words than that it looks fucking great.
But back to the "Red Mist" episode. I don't want to give spoilers for anybody who still plans to see it, but damn. Damn, damn, damn, damn. There's violence, lots and lots of violence, but I thought it really gave another perception by seeing the protagonist feeling bad about what he was doing. He wasn't doing it because he wanted to, but at that point because of sheer necessity to survive. Realising this he simply succumbs, and the "red mist" takes over completely.
As if the violence wasn't given enough gravity already by what we had seen. We then get the ending. The father not being able to shoot the arrow towards the boat......fantastic. The main characters basically creating new versions of themselves, by doing exactly what was done to them in season 1... again, this is just a goddamn amazing episode. It flabbergasted me beyond flabbering,
