I've considered watching Six Feet Under many times but it's just hard to approach. The synopsis is like the least interesting thing I've read in a minute, just doesn't seem like an interesting premise for a show.
How would you describe it to someone if you had to sell them on it? Ik this is a hard question, because I've been flustered in the past thinking of ways to sell one of my friends on Succession. I'm familiar with prestige HBO shows, how they're often episodic, very character driven, without much emphasis on plot. Succession, which I love, is the same way. But SFU's from the era when they were also incredibly slow. The Sopranos is a good example, it's a great show but each episode really makes you feel the hour go by.
Honestly, I find Six Feet Under more accessible than Succession. SFU is more of a character-based drama, but the pilot episode throws you into the show and its overall themes quite quickly. Additionally, there is plenty of humor and moments of magical realism that add enough distraction for it not to feel "slow." Additionally, most of the characters start out incredibly likeable and only with time become less sympathetic.
Honestly just knowing that you like Succession is enough of a reason to recommend it. They're different for sure, but I would expect a lot of overlap in fanbase. Excellent ensemble cast, centered on an interesting family. Well written, great as a drama but with a very dark sense of humor. I watched it for the first time 10+ years ago, but re-watched it it recently and still loved it.
Can you handle watching spoiled, privileged people self-sabotage and shoot themselves in the foot nonstop and still feel sympathy for them and become attached? If so, this is your show. If not, then perhaps not.
I was wavering on Bojack for a while but the final season really did hit different.
The Americans. A great final season and one of the best finales on top of that.
Assuming you survive the heart-stopping moments of anxiety during the show, the final manages to mix a heart-rending moment with a bitter-sweet ending (especially due to what we know about future events the characters wouldn't know at the time). Subsequent events would weigh heavily on all the decisions made by the characters at the end (and make it even more poignant as time passes).
when the mom looks up on the train and sees the daughter standing there and it’s cut so that wailing part of “with or without you” hits right at the same time - i GASPED
Mr. Robot. So many people unfortunately bailed during the odd (but important) slow burn season 2 and never got the beautiful payoff.
The Leftovers as well. Season 1 is so dark and bleak but it really transformed into something magnificent with the last two seasons.
I really disliked how things ended with Tyrell Wellick, other than that S4 of Mr Robot was great
Season 3 and 4 are such great television. A show we are so glad we finished. Season 4 is top-tier TV viewing
The last two seasons of both The Leftovers and Mr. Robot are the best 4 seasons in television, imo. Viewers who stayed with these shows were rewarded with the heights of what cinematic television can be.
Leftovers only had 3 seasons….

The Good Place
The Shield
Derry Girls. It just got better and better all the way to the end.
Fringe.
Definitely Fringe.
The Mentalist also ended well….
Fringe! I need a total re-watch of that show. Walter is a legend.
Person of interest had a very satisfying ending
Loved the show, but I very much disagree with it having a good ending…
For one, it left way too much hanging and unanswered. Second, it felt rushed and poorly thought out at times.
What did it leave hanging and unanswered?? Samaritan was destroyed, the machine was clearly up and running again, Finch went home, and Shaw was going to keep doing the job.
What about the other teams the machine had set up?
Did Shaw continue alone? Fusco?
And many more…..
Let me stress again that I absolutely loved this show….
The show not explicitly tying up every single thing doesn’t make it a bad ending. There’s plenty to infer from what they give you - the machine resuming its activities tells you that it’s likely to use the other (and possibly more) teams that we don’t know about, it clearly implies Shaw is going to continue to work the numbers, and there’s no reason to not think Fusco didn’t continue on as a detective.
Dude….I expressed my opinion on why I didn’t find it a “good” ending. You don’t have to be offended that I disagree with you. You liked the ending? Well good for you. Very happy you found it satisfying.
Go away now, please?
Not sure where you got the sense that I was “offended” by anything you said. The post is a thread discussing endings of shows, which I thought we were doing. My bad.
If I misread the situation, I apologize. It’s just that you seemed so argumentative about it.
Definitely not my intent - I just hadn’t seen your take before on the final season/finale and was just interested in the convo.
And I went and ruined it… a bad ending if ever there was one.
All good. Have a nice day.
Angel's fifth and final season is the best of the entire show.
Twin Peaks' third season is also the best it ever was, although as a revival that's not quite the same as a regular final season.
The Sopranos
The leftovers
Mr Robot [ All time great landing episode]
Justified
The Shield
The Leftovers
Six Feet Under
The Americans
Person of Interest
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul [ 1st half]
Few I can recollect
> The Leftovers
I've heard many people disagree with that. I liked it, but it certainly wasn't a slam dunk
Unpopular opinion, but although the season itself maybe weaker than the earlier seasons, The Wire ended perfectly
Friday Night Lights
All time favorite series finale. Just perfect.
Left me wanting more but that's the sign of a great series (minus season 2).
Angel
The West Wing final season finishes it all off quite nicely I thought.
Gonna give the most controversial answer.
Lost. Lost had a genuinely good final season and final episode and I cry every time >!they all finally reunite in the afterlife and Ben rejects because he doesn’t feel worthy enough yet!<
I will die on this hill
This answer deserves more love. There were problems on the way to the final season, but that ending is wonderful. Jack ending his time on the island in the exact place he started with Vincent by us side is beautiful.
It was ruined for people because they didn’t understand it. ThEy WeRe DeAD the wHoLe Time?!?
Yep that’s exactly it. I’ve rewatched the show 3 times now (and watched Billiam spend 8 hours over 2 videos reviewing it)
And it’s never fails to be a perfect ending to one of the greatest shows of all time
Firefly
Firefly.

I will never forgive.
The Practise.
It perfectly introduces the characters for Boston Legal while letting James Spader play a darker version of Alan Shore which I think a better version of the character than how he plays it in Boston Legal.
Mad Men, The Prisoner, Six Feet under, the White Lotus (both seasons), Winning Time, in fact many many series have great endings. The ones that have bad endings are however thrashed (Lost, Dexter)
Mr Robot
Avatar
The Leftovers
Black Sails
Shingeki no Kyojin
>Shingeki no Kyojin
Debatable. Especially since it hasn't reached the actual end yet.
I have read the actual end and like it so to me it's true. I think majority will like it anyway.
The Americans wraps everything up perfectly
Justified ended on a pretty satisfying season/season finale.
The Dr Oz show
The Sopranos has gotta be up there
Homeland
Came here to say this. What an amazing show.
I thought it wrapped up really well. There were a couple seasons that missed the mark a little for me, but it finished strong and tied everything up nicely
Agreed. Even the down seasons were interesting enough…
Oh yeah, even the worst seasons were better than most shows best seasons.

Legion
Twin peaks
Battlestar Galactica (I know unpopular opinion)
Mr Robot
The Wire’s ending is fantastic. The cycle just continues indefinitely.
Cougar Town. I know it gets a lot of hate, mainly from the title, but they knew they were on their final season so they made sure to be as genuine as possible with every character. Bobby left to work on another show so they made him get picked up for a chance at pro golfing. Andy and Ellie switched roles so Andy became a stay at home dad and Ellie went back to working as a lawyer. Travis and Laurie moved onto the caul de sac and everyone truly got a chance to get a genuine wrap up to their story. Surprised me how good it was since a lot of shows will give up once they're cancelled.
Sopranos
Mob psycho 100
Mr robot
Freaks and Geeks
Six feet under is a masterpiece.
The Office The final season has big ups and downs but the film episode is really great
It’s full of all the feels, creed gets to sing, and Dwight fires Jim, to help them more money as Jim and Pam leave the company.
And of course the famous line from Andy “I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.”
Imo Dark S3
Sons Of Anarchy
Parks and Rec. Went to the future to answer everything you would want to know about the characters and was really sweet and funny.
Only bad thing is that they probably couldn't do another episode since it is all resolved.
Scrubs! The ending to season 8 was such a perfect way to tie off the show. I'm really glad they didn't try to spin it off or anything.
12 Monkeys. Great Final season and even better finale.
