Maybe the initial idea was to make Marina the offensive stereotypical predatory lesbian, it makes total sense someone wasn't ok playing that role.

Theres a lot of fucked up shit in that show.

One of the main characters rapes her wife and its never really mentioned again.

They were absolutely horrid to every trans character that showed up

Other than Shane almost the entirety of the main cast starts as a lesbian stereotype that they never really grow out of.

that's a thing? I mean there's stereotypes about playing golf, having short hair, spending a lot of time working on motorcycles, being boxy in body shape, but i've never heard of a stereotype of being aggressively predatory.

The writing on that show was so bad that I never try to figure out the reasoning behind any of the decisions like this. I think the only way to enjoy it is as a trashy soap opera. I watched it weekly during the original run as I longed for representation on tv. But it was frustrating as hell.
