It is set in a castle with 20 contestants and 3 of them are traitors with the power to murder. The cast is so immersed it turns into a Lord of the flies suspicious mind-f*** within about 24 hours. There’s a cliffhanger every episode, there’s an intense round table where they have to try and banish a traitor, there’s a secret couple and a guy who falls in love with one of them thinking they’re single! Prestige tv, honestly give it a shot. Everything past episode 3 is pure gold. Also the people are so real and not glossy! I’m in the US so I had to get creative to watch it! Make sure to get the UK version.

Gotta agree, it's really juicy, but not in the sexed up bro-d out way that an American version would likely be. The castle atmosphere & the host are a big part of the appeal as well.

Yess the people are so real!! I just added that into my post thanks. Even the ‘bro’ dudes are actually quite sensitive and nice people

Binged all episodes today. What makes it is how the interpersonal dynamics develop between a bunch of ordinary people, plus the way episodes are put together. They're not just going through the motions/tasks then "voting off" someone they barely-know at the end of each episode. They're doing the dirty on someone they like, often because of groupthink. It's like if BB1 Nasty Nick made a reality show by his rules!

There is an American version coming; same castle with Alan Cumming as the host.

hm, I will give it a shot, but based on past attempts to Americanize shows, the odds are it's not gonna be that good. Alan Cumming is positive though.

So basically the Mole?

Similar, but more specifically a gameshow version of Werewolf/Mafia

Better than the mole! More theming and theatrics. Contestants are more intriguing and emotional. Murders!!

I only watched the first episode of the Traitors, but I found the concept of it frustraiting when comparing it to The Mole.

In The Mole, at the end of the game the Mole gets nothing; so it makes sense that they would sabotage missions in order to bring down the prize pot.

Whereas in The Traitors, if a traitor can stay undetected and get to the end (I assume) they would win the prize pot; therefore they WOULDN'T want to sabotage missions. Traitors will vote to "kill off" "the faithful" (non-traitors) each night; making the game, in my opinion, really inbalanced.

It’s balanced as every night the faithfuls banish someone! It gets good from episode 3, there’s some twists about missions including immunity later on that make it more interesting and also the missions can be more personality based too! Also it might be in the traitors interest to turn on each other to get more money!

I don’t know why so many people are fixated on the idea that there needs to be sabotage. This is NOT ‘The Mole.’ It’s a different show with a different format.

Claudia Winkleman (host) really annoys me, having to constantly look out from under her fringe.

It’s like she’s hiding something, I don’t know, I’ve always found it… weird.

she becomes iconic I like it when she screams at the contestants

A big name here incidentally: Claudia is the number 2 presenter on Strictly Come Dancing; when Bruce Forsyth retired, Tess Daly was bumped up to lead and Claudia took her place, moving from the weekday companion show It Takes Two.

Me and the missus have been loving it so far. And I don’t usually like shows like this.

I watched the first episode of it and just didn’t find it that interesting - Claudia was also very annoying to watch at times.

I’m from the UK, but honestly the US Survivor is probably some of the best reality type show I’ve seen (better than The Traitor). The scheming and strategy in Survivor can be second to none, though not every season is great - the current one is in my opinion. Apparently the Aus version of Survivor is even better/more brutal, so I’m looking to check that out too.

It gets good from episode 3! Agreed episode 1 wasn’t that captivating which isn’t ideal for a new show

No worries mate, I’ll persevere in that case 👍

It's getting better with every episode, even if I'm having trouble accepting all the excessive emotional reactions sometimes.

I'd like to try the original Dutch version, does anybody know if it's available somewhere outside The Netherlands?
