Just finished watching the new Wednesday Addams show on Netflix. Up until the final episode, it was an incredible show. I loved the interactions with the characters. I love how much depth there was. They had multiple different mysteries going at once, and they all seem unrelated. It forced you to think and try and draw parallels between these mysterious events. It could be genuinely tense at times. They had typical bully type characters established in episode 1, but then started showing the perspectives of everyone instead of them being black and white character clichés. They had good development with all of them, and dealt with themes of manipulation. The main character wasn't completely lovable. She had flaws, so part of the series was working those out. There was a lot of good built up leading up to the finale. They even had a perfectly crafted reveal of the villains that fit together so well. Then they fucking ruined it in the final episode. All it took was one episode to ruin the entire series. The perfectly made reveal from the last episode got tossed aside and the "real" villains were revealed. Guess what. They were a main character who had absolutely no hints towards being a villain, and a background character who was onscreen for maybe a total of 10 minutes. They pulled the same shit Zootopia did by making the villain some random unassuming character that had no hints at all leading you to figure out it was them, only this show did it worse. They tossed aside a good reveal for a shitty twist. I'll admit, the one thing the final episode did do well was tie together the mysteries and how it all related. The monster wasn't just a serial killer collecting trophies, but was collecting parts it needed for a sacrifice to bring back this old dead pilgrim dude and set forth the events of some apocalyptic prophecy revealed in episode 1. I would've forgiven the writers for the shitty twist villains if they had ended the season with this dude being brought back to life, but they didn't. Rather than having the fight against the ultimate villain be the subject of season 2, they chose to end it in roughly 5 seconds. No explanation of why he suddenly had magical powers despite wanting to destroy witches. Him and the other main villain get killed off pretty quickly as well with the power of friendship or whatever. It mostly seemed like pointless fanservice they tried to cram in last minute by forcing the character moments they were hinting at into the show at the worst of times. Enid going full wolf mode wasn't that bad, but it happened too quickly. Tyler getting killed off screen was another level of disappointing. Eugene using the power of bees was just fucking cringeworthy. Wednesday's whole character arc got ruined the moment she went full torture mode on tyler. Additionally, no hints were given as to why he was so evil throughout the entire series. The principal being killed off was just pointless. Xavier just forgiving Wednesday for manipulating him and getting him falsely arrested was also fucking stupid. To top it all off, the final scene ends with some mysterious new villain being revealed. This show is probably going to turn into some shitty villain of the season show where a random new person who hates Wednesday for some reason just appears out of nowhere, then gets finished off for the season finale.

TLDR: The writers deserve and award for just how quickly they could ruin an amazing show. The last episode was so fucking abysmal that I wouldn't even mind if the Hyde ripped my eyes out.

Paragraph breaks. They are your friend.

Otherwise, it’s a wall of text that the reader gets no break from.

I agree that the plot ultimately disappointed. I felt they could have thrown out at least one layer of red herrings and had one less episode.

(It also occurred to me that if a trio of townies can drive a tanker full of red paint onto the grounds and hook it up to the fire suppression system, our big bad could have skipped the tedious harvesting of 'ingredients' and occult ritual and just cooked up some toxic goo and fed it into the sprinklers. (Would have been a short season, though...))

I agree. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it, until the last episode where there were so many elaborate magic elements and cliches crammed in that it twisted my head, but not in a good, puzzling way. It felt like it turned it into a kid's TV show, goosebumps or something, where the villain was like the cartoon network version of Vigo the Carpathian from Ghostbusters 2. It felt like it was meant to be a Scooby Doo type thing, but they didn't do it in a clever way. Very disappointing.

I struggle to believe you didn’t see the “main” villain early on. I’m not sure spoilers are allowed but it became obvious to me when the mayor looked at an old photo of that fanatics family. It immediately clicked for me who was the odd one frequently showing up in every episode.

It took me longer to guess who the monster is as i initially guessed correctly until something happened to allegedly put the suspicious character and a monster in one scene; so I thought “nah my theory is proven wrong”. Until it wasn’t.

Tbf I didn’t like the last episode as much as well but only due to Wendy’s manner of confronting suspected killers with almost no back up plan (“please surrender, you have been exposed”).

So yeah, I’m sorry you missed the clues, doesn’t make the final villains “unassuming” and forced.

Also the guy who was initially arrested was shoved in our faces so hard, it was so obvious, anyone who ever read a detective or played a detective game knows it’s NEVER an obvious one.

Completely agree, what a disappointing ending, absolutely cringe worthy and so rushed, i would have preferred an annoying cliff hanger rather than the outcome it had. Do not recommend
