Would’ve been weird for Tulsa King to be set in KC 😬

I feel like the story of a New York mafia boss setting up shop in KC is a much different story, as the Kansas City mafia is a very real thing.

Kansas City King as a title makes a lot more sense because they have a royalty theme to their pro sports teams, the American Royal livestock show, and the NBA's Sacramento Kings used to be the Kansas City Kings.

Apparently in this America the NRA never fomented gun proliferation. Everyone just accepts being bullied by a 5'9" 75 year old who threatens to stomp on your feet.

Fun story, as a kid in Kansas City my little league baseball coach was married to the sister of the ranking mafioso boss in Kansas City, and all the kids of the bosses were on my team. My parents said we had lots of the other parents who attended in silk suits, with interesting "friends" who accompanied them to the games, and that we always had receptions catered by the finest places in KC.

The Movie Casio touches on the KC Mob as all the bosses for the Vegas crews were in KC. That part is actually pretty accurate. The KC Mafia had a massive part in building Vegas and the Feds uncovered a lot of doings track to Kansas City and why many members are blacklisted from all casinos in the state

Yeah, I dropped the show about halfway through the first episode when he roughs up three businesses and people in the reddest state in the country don't just shoot him. IT was too rediculous.

Kansas Citian here. There was a discussion in our local sub when this show was originally proposed that isn't included in the story. Apparently, the folks developing the series wanted Stallone's character to be a fish out of water in a "smaller, flyover city" with no real ties to the mafia.

Turns out that KC is quite a large metropolitan area with a major urban presence and also has historic ties to the mafia.

Still better than 5'7 75 year old Mike Ehrmantraut twisting a guy's arm, which makes his two 6'5 compatriots run away while screaming "This guy's crazy!" And all the people watching take to YouTube to comment on how badass and realistic Mike is.

I'm not super familiar but it might be like the St Louis mob, which technically still exists but now is basically a bunch of geriatrics (like, over 80) running numbers games and maybe a bit of gambling and the FBI decided it wasn't even worth following any longer.

You can keep posting dumb headlines about this movie with fake upvotes, I'm still not going to watch it.

IMDB:

>Following his release from prison, mafia capo Dwight "The General" Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unlikely characters.

Wikipedia:

>Dwight "The General" Manfredi is a New York Mafia capo who just completed a 25-year prison sentence. Upon release, his boss sends him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to establish criminal operations there. Not knowing anyone in the area, The General seeks a new crew to help establish his empire.

Which is pretty much what the first episode was all about. It's a silly premise if you are even vaguely aware of how active organized crime is in cities of the "flyover" states.

Now, if the show was called "Lawton King" or "Muskogee King," that would be an interesting premise.

It has potential but some of the dialog feels so weird and out of place. I LOVE sly, but I feel like maybe he’s miscast for this. Maybe not it’s too early to tell. It’s so hard for a show like this to exist these days all you can do is compare it to sopranos
