This is more or less than same lawsuit thats been happening for a half a decade. Its not really new.
They were already suing them, and then some additional info came out in discovery related to the Darabont suit, which help Kirkman and other's cases regarding AMC purposefully not respecting their MFNs, and then AMC and Darabont got finished and now they are using that to try to close out their suit.
Basically nothing really new here is happening, they're just doing regular legal things that need to be done to get AMC to the table again

Darabont also treated his staff like shit so at this point I'm not sure who to believe in that whole ordeal.

Both of them being assholes sounds very plausible

> That wouldn’t be the only profane rant that month. In one email, Darabont asked why camera operators were being paid when “Ray Charles could operate better.” In yet another, he compared one of the show’s directors to someone whom he’d formerly worked with who had suffered massive, debilitating strokes. “It’s like we yanked some kid with no experience out of high school and put her in charge of directing a show,” wrote Darabont. > > And to AMC’s executives, he was no less polite. “Please let’s stop invoking ‘the writers room,'” he emailed AMC’s Ben Davis. “There IS no writers room, which you know as well as I do. I am the writers room. The fucking lazy assholes who were supposedly going to be my showrunners threw that responsibility on me after wasting five months of my time.”

It seems like one of those situations where both sides are shitty. There's more out there that was just first search results.

I mean… he may have not responded in the most mature way but his points are valid. I’d be pissed too if someone wasted 5 months of work not doing anything.
Also, have you seen the show at all? If he was referring to Scott Gimple and crew then even more so. Have you seen how much Gimple and Co. have ruined all aspects of TWD universe? His spin-off was complete garbage and nonsensical and his reboot of Fear destroyed what made the show enjoyable.
If Darabont had to put up with that shit, I don’t blame him one bit.

Fuck AMC.

Did you mistake my criticism of Darabont as a defense of AMC? It's possible to think both were in the wrong. I stated as much, in fact.

Well frank was right though and just give frank some pass man the guy made " Shawshank redemption" & Green mile

Yeah, they're greedy. Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner also had problems with AMC where they wanted him to cut the cast in half, reduce the episode lengths (so they could fit more commercials in), and reduce the budget per episode. Weiner wouldn't do it. He was smart to have it stipulated in his contract that AMC couldn't continue the show without him.

Omg is that why Andrea was written poorly? Laurie fucking ate in that role but my understanding is that the one actor quit because Frank quit....and that character was supposed to have storyline with her...so they basically had no idea what to do?
alpacasarebadsingers t1_iwiyivz wrote
Should hit them with a “you ruined a cash cow by letting Gimple run it into the ground for years” suit
diiejso t1_iwj0m4y wrote
You can tell when they move him from one Walking Dead show to another when one noticeably improves and another craters in quality at the same time.

Season 4 of fear the walking dead 😭. He wasnt showrunner but he had his hand in the writing because the Gimple Speak just jumped out on screen

Is that why the show went into literal meme territory
ron_weedsley t1_iwl4f48 wrote
Yep.
The original showrunner's plan was having Madison turn into a villain over the course of the series and have her fight Nick at the end, and Gimple ruined it.
SeveranceZero t1_iwkhrh2 wrote
He hired the showrunners… he definitely ruined Fear and other things.

Okay here's my idea, what if after the group defeats the antagonist and finds a safe place, we introduce an EVEN BADDER guy that attacks them?
candygram4mongo t1_iwjma1a wrote
Well, that's kind of what the comics were like too...
kinzer13 t1_iwjmubp wrote
Probably why Kirkman ended them. But AMC just kept it going and going and going.
GamingTatertot t1_iwjnyow wrote
To be fair, the show is ending at like the exact point the comics ended. It's just the show introduced a lot of other shit.
In the comics, it was basically the Governor, then Terminus (well they were different in the comics), Negan, The Whisperers, and then the Commonwealth.
The show added the Grady Hospital group, the Wolves and the Reapers, and also prolonged the Saviors must more than they needed to. Also the Commonwealth wasn't as villainous in the comics as they appear to be in the show - really more complex and flawed, but not inherently evil
SeveranceZero t1_iwkhw91 wrote
He ended them because he was a sellout and got his TV deal. The comic was supposed to be never ending. Then he made some big changes twice and said it wouldn’t change the comics at all and then he ended them the next issue (right after he made one of the big changes).
Dude is pathetic. And he’s been trying to sue AMC for years, as if he wasn’t greedy enough.
kinzer13 t1_iwllrro wrote
He's pathetic because he ended his comic? And he's greedy because he wants a fair share of the revenue from his show? Get real.
SeveranceZero t1_iwlmp05 wrote
No, he’s pathetic because he sold out when he got his money and went against everything he had promised.
His fair share of revenue? He’s barely involved in the show and the decisions they make. And the ones they do make, they shit all over the source material - so clearly he doesn’t actually care for his project. He got paid, he’s just greedy.

i hope they kill the franchise, the walking dead sequels and spinoffs are basically all AMC has and they suck harder then the last one.
dinosaurfondue t1_iwizh2v wrote
AMC has made billions off the franchise and are notorious for being cheap. They treated Frank Darabont like shit so I'm not surprised that other TWD execs are suing as well
