Many Iron Chef spin-offs have been a bit luke-warm, or worse, ridiculously over-the-top (Iron Chef USA with William Shatner, for example).

But the new Iron Chef Mexico on Netflix captures the zaniness of the original almost perfectly. It's got the ridiculous dubbing, crazy ingredients, commentary, and guests. The "Chairman" is the "nephew" of Mark Dacascos's chairman in Iron Chef America, who in turn was the "nephew" of original chairman Takeshi Kaga.

I was digging it as it went, but Episode 4's secret ingredient sold me completely.

For lovers of the original Japanese there's an entire Pluto.tv channel of it. It's amazing.

I liked it very much. Although I was not happy with the last competition( won’t spoil it), but the vegan and insect challenge was legit.

Haven't had the chance to watch the new Mexico version, but was pretty impressed by Netflix latest season of Iron Chef America

I lived in Mexico briefly and have no problem with the cuisine, but if they are focusing on bullshit like that instead of actual traditional Mexican cuisine and ingredients it isn't my style.

I prefer to not sit through obvious cultural appropriation.

I grew up down there and eating any ant-eggs and those little cactus grubs have been a staple in the regional diet since pre-colonization times.

It’s cooking by Mexican chefs for a Mexican audience you absolute woke-wanker.

No shit, and some people in America eat mac + cheese with american cheese all the time.

Does that mean an American cooking competition should choose crappy pasta and american cheese as 'special ingredients'?

No, because much richer and more appealing foods represent the country better, just like Mexico.

Why are we watching them cook with crap simply because the producers want to push that lifestyle? It is a cooking show, not politics.

Yeah I only lived in Mexico and ate across the country.

So amusing to watch people who have no international culinary experience talk down because I actually know good Mexican ingredients.

Keep eating your crickets while I enjoy some huitlacoche.
