Looking forward to seeing Harrison Ford in a Taylor Sheridan show

He already has. The last season of Yellowstone had alot of shark jumping, and his Angelina Jolie movie was very unmemorable. I'd like to see him pull back a bit and get back to the Sicario/Hell or High Water/Wind River level of writing he's capable of.

Your mistake is thinking that the last season was supposed to be a TV show. He bought the 6's ranch and the show has basically turned into an advertisement for the ranch and that style of horse riding in general. Those montages of horses quickly stopping and spinning in place got old real fast.

*he co-owns the ranch with a group of investors.

Have we even seen a trailer for this yet? I feel like it just started filming.

I am looking forward to this. I still haven't finished Yellowstone, just been dabbling with it on Peacock. But I loved 1883 and was disappointed we didn't see the formation of the ranch. I am guessing we will see the younger son be the one to start the ranch, naming it after his sister. With it only being 30 years later we could still get a cameo by Tim McGraw or Faith Hill to connect the shows.

That makes a lot of sense because that shit is completely terrible and I couldn't even finish last season.

And the show he did with Jeremy Renner was such a fucking dud.

It's pretty impressive the stars this franchise has been able to wrangle. Costner, Ford, Mirren, fucking Tom Hanks (albeit in a brief cameo).
There's a Bass Reeves spinoff with David Oyelowo coming up too IIRC.

Was it not good? I was thinking of giving it a go

Just watched and finished it a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was great minus a few flaws. Not the greatest thing in the world but I thought it was worth my time, unlike many shows on streaming services. At least give it a try if you're into crime (like The Wire, Sopranos etc). It's getting a second season as well so it must have at least met expectations from the Paramount higher ups.
WhatsIsMyName t1_iu1yrg0 wrote
Sounds like something I'd be into, I'll probably start it this weekend.

Sheridan's the Clint Eastwood of television.
To clarify, actors love working with Clint on films which he directs because he's known for doing scenes in a single take (or two) and moving on. Studios love it too because it's cheaper.

They're doing a spinoff on the 6's ranch, featuring Jimmy. I really wouldn't have minded something like a backdoor pilot, but it felt most of last season of Yellowstone was just to promote the spinoff. I like Jimmy, but it was so annoying and made it hard to watch.
jblanch3 t1_iu20iiy wrote
I don't think that's happening anytime soon. TV is way too lucrative for him to go back to movies, as much as I'd love to see that happen.

I know Agent gave a good recommendation, I just wanted to second him. It's really good. I found the premise going in initially confusing, I wasn't sure what was going on, but it makes sense very quickly and keeps getting better. The penultimate episode (and the finale too) is insane.

It was promoting his other shows a bit too much tbh.
ChaserNeverRests t1_iu248n3 wrote
Nope. And same, I was surprised it's coming out so soon!
ChaserNeverRests t1_iu24f7m wrote
In the previous prequel, the ranch didn't even exist yet... I believe they'll be building it in this next prequel.
And it's been a while since I watched the original Yellowstone, but wasn't the ranch almost lost a grand total of once?
MasterofAcorns t1_iu2op24 wrote
Probably on Thanksgiving!

I would have imagined he needs a team of writers to support that output, but it's pretty shitty if he claims he's doing it all on his own.

It isn't at all. It is redundent as hell, I don't know how many times we saw Renner have a meeting with this drug dealer in his front yard. There was this entire storyline involving the love interest that was just so fucking pointless.
Over all it was 3 episodes of typical low life shit dragged out over way too many episodes.
cabose7 t1_iu4k18i wrote
I don't think the WGA would allow that

Gotcha. It's weird, I want to give all Sheridan stuff a go because I absolutely love his movies.
But Yellowstone was....ridiculous honestly. The son has like 10 once in a lifetime things happen to him in the first season alone. I couldn't get to the second season.
Frangiblepani t1_iu0ll3b wrote
I like Yellowstone, but Taylor Sheridan needs to calm down or he's going to spread himself too thin.
