the actor gives off horrible vibes to me and I never saw season 1: when I first saw Lucas in S2 and especially S3, I liked that he came from a poor background and I liked that he was into literature, so personally, I'm fine with him. but yes: I think he's on the same level as Rory from "Gilmore Girls", where a lot of people just say "Side characters? A lot of main characters in shonen are the least interesting characters in their shows, almost by definition.

A lot of them have no real character flaws, to the extent that other characters improve upon themselves just by being around them. Further, they often have special destinies and origins, making their accomplishments feel unearned.
