I can imagine believing this if you watch a ton of bad boilerplate TV, but as of 2023, ChatGPT is still very regularly producing the text equivalent of 7 fingered hands and a general sense of "uncanny valley" in the output.

Yeah, I was reading some experiences of people using it for screenwriting and does it random stuff like lose track of who's holding objects and other inexplicable errors.

And that's not even getting into writing something actually compelling.

So ChatGPT can probably take over for 911 Lone Star?

Nah. AI can't provide the context of the uncomfortable season 2 murder mystery.

Or can it?

Either way, they'd be sued for using it because the bot just steals stories/characters from other copyrighted films and shows.

As opposed to human writers who are never heavily inspired or influenced by copyrighted films and shows.

watch the episode of South Park from a few weeks ago if you thing ChatGPT can write as well as humans, as least at this point in time.

They used a script written in ChatGPT for one scene and, while it is made obvious they are doing it in the show, even if they didn't you can tell the exact first line that it takes over from the human writers.

Yeah that's the fucking point. That's why it works, if you don't have leverage you don't get shit. That's why all these peaceful protests get nothing and why France is rioting.

Hmm I wonder how the studios could avoid a strike...maybe give them what they want?

It's a little funny how this article is about a show being "derailed" by the 2007-8 strike, yet I think most viewers of Friday Night Lights would agree that storyline was the weakest in the show even before the strike. Sure, they may have lost the opportunity to resolve the story the way they hoped, but it's hard to see how they really would've been able to conclude it in a way that changed people's opinion of it. I don't think people were really clamoring for five more episodes of Landry being afraid he was going to prison.

I realize this article is trying to explain some of the effects of a strike and why it should be avoided, but the strike didn't lead to a "bizarre season" of FNL, just cut an already "bizarre season" short.

I was around during the last writer’s strike, I know what it can effect tv and movie production, not to mention the Covid pandemic’s effect.

Pretty strong possibility this could happen, but it’s necessary to achieve their goals .

It lead to some of the best late night tv ever in the past. And writers are underpaid still. So I'm all for it.
