The quality of acting is the only thing a lot of the time that separates drama from melodrama.

The Leftovers for example can be very melodramatic at time but the acting is so good that you can give it a pass.

I hate non-diverse casts or shows that don't give female characters lots of space. but of course, if something exceptional-but-very-white-and-straight comes along, I will watch it.

That's actually what made me write this post.. I haven't watched it yet, but I had a feeling they'd have lots and lots of filler based on what I saw of image stills..

Nope, I haven’t checked that show out. I think 40 minute episodes are great when there’s a variety of things happening on screen. But when all it is is this a focus on one guy whose demeanor hasn’t changed since season 1, it gets boring pretty fast.

But, I will say maybe that’s great for some people who want episodes that have a strong presence and silence instead of lots of action and dialogue.

So you saw stills of a show that has 3 episodes out but you think it has lots of filler despite never watching it?

I have a very strong opinion about TLOU2 and I have never played it. I think I'm qualified to do the same for this show. Which I have plans of watching once it has enough episodes out.

I'm not saying the show is not good, but that it has the most potential to have fillers since they can't have a shoot out every 10 minutes like in the game. They'll stop to smell the flowers a lot longer, and have conversations sitting down instead of while on the move.

What do you mean by filler shots in Breaking Bad? Like the time lapses of the sun going across the sky and stuff?

I love Breaking Bad but to be fair it's a very slow-paced show. The scripts are just as long as any 45 minute show (about 50-60 pages), but sometimes half of those pages are just describing rooms or specific shots.

The amount of bourbon everyone drank on justified. I just thought it was funny as it was so OTT.

It's been done on plenty of shows where I've tolerated it, Breaking Bad included, but as a rule I get immediately put off by the 'open on a crazy scene then cut to [three] [days] earlier' format. Feels so obnoxious.
