Andor is an example of why you don’t put super fans in charge of the IP.

you mean because Gilroy is not a super fan and that's why he was able to do something that so different and so good?

Yes. Filoni is so damn stuck in orbit around the existing properties he can’t get out of it. You’re never going to see anything original or new from him.

I don't disagree with your assessment. Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett are examples of when it goes wrong. But that doesn't stop me from liking The Mandalorian.

I guess Filoni is like Star Wars porn. Porn doesn't need to do anything new to keep being effective.

Yep. Rogue One and Andor are my favorite stories since the original trilogy. The writing and dialogue are so good. No cheesy one liners or fart jokes, it's a sharp espionage thriller.

I saw the first episode and it really didn't catch my attention too much? When does it start to become more interesting?

Episode 3.

Generally the series works in blocks of 3 episodes. You get 2 episodes of buildup and then a payoff episode. Episode 6 is the second big payoff and as you see in this thread it's a pretty magnificent episode. The second half of the series once you're invested is amazing.

I love Star Wars so I found joy in each episode. But I get that not everyone loves the setting as much as I do.

This exactly. I can take or leave Star Wars, but Andor was really quite good.

Watch the first three episodes. You’ll know if you want to watch the rest.

I’d say you need to watch episodes 1-3. They were released together because there’s an arc in those first 3 that helps pay off the slow build up and world building that people like you would find hard to get through. If you don’t enjoy it at that point then you’re not going to like it I guess.

When Stellan Skarsgaard's character shows up, things are about to get serious.

It doesn't. The show is boring and dreary throughout.

It is just that there are people who think that boring and dreary is great. These are the people who think "prestige" television is good.

it does get better, just wait until Luthen does his thing with the ship, that's a bona fide Top Ten Star Wars moment

The show is great and Hilda probably the two best monologues in scifi since Babylon 5 in the 90s
