Explain again how this differs from Facebook:

Its opaque algorithms and data-collection capabilities appear to be
tailor-made to spread propaganda or collect sensitive information. Quite frankly, many of the most popular videos on the app seem positively deranged.

Easy, Facebook is an American company that spies for the American government. Tiktok is a direct competitor, so the US gov is seeking a ban to protect Facebook.
Why else would Facebook be paying a republican firm to spread misinformation about tiktok?

Because it's a direct competitor? Neither have to be a propaganda arm to have a business case for hurting the other. Not that I disagree with you
