That's what you get for buying a VR headset from Facebook of all companies. It's like opening a bank account at Golden Corral

Guess it was more of a side Quest

I guess I won’t be considering them this year when I buy a headset

When did they end support for the GameCube? It still works fine. This will be no different

Will they stop asking me to create various different accounts and link accounts together for it then? Create your occulus account! Now link your occulus account to your facebook account. Or do you just want a meta account? No, well too bad - make one! I swear to god I think I got another one of those "you can have a new new new account" emails a few months ago that I promptly ignored.

That's fair, honestly I'm surprised it lasted that long.

Just offloaded mine on Mercari a few months ago. Never used it much and the best games (RE4 VR) were only developed for Quest 2. With the new requirements forcing users to have a Meta account I can’t see myself bothering with any future products from them. Looking forward to getting a PSVR2.

They should be required by laws to support devices far longer. Goes for other electronic gadgets too.

Good luck with the sales of future VR headsets.

The Quest 1 was old hardware when it was released, I am all for meta cutting it off. However I think they should open it up like they did the Oculus Go.

You shouldn't have been considering them for any headset the second FB got their fingers in the pot.

It was obvious from the start they were gonna do nothing but stick their big data dick in the entire company for their own corporate goals, user experience and functionality went right to the bottom of the priority pile

4 years is a short period and it’s not nice for the people who own it. But at the same time 4 years in VR developments is a very long time. The VR technology is advancing each year and it can’t and shouldn’t be held back by older headsets. Meta is and always has been very open about their goal with VR. Every headset that is introduced by Meta or an other company is a better than the previous ones. The problem isn’t necessarily Meta but the game or app developers who can’t or don’t want to support old headsets. Sony will also move forward with PSVR2, the headset is so different from the original that it can’t easily make games that work on both.

I personally hate it that almost every PS5 game is technically held back because it still has to work on an old PS4.

I had the Oculus Go and that was killed in less then 2 years. I think this is the way to keep up revenue in the company, by forcing your customer base into the newest devices.

I mostly hear you, however... I think it matters whether "ending support" means "no further advancements including bugfixes" or "your device is bricked".

Because you MUST sign in to Facebook to use the hardware (a fact I hate on its own), I expect this to be more of a "bricked" situation.

It's too bad they don't open the drivers so the community can support them. It's all just more waste otherwise. They should be fined for that.

Meta sucks obviously, but it's not like I trusted Palmer any more.

The dude is a military contractor now, nothing good was ever going to come from the Oculus
