In addition to the issue having zero import to any human being on earth, it's also bullshit to talk about reasonable expectations. If you give someone information such as your email address and they've made no statement of any kind to you about what they are going to do with that information, you have no expectations of any kind. You gave the info, it's theirs now.

I wish there were more cases of law firms crating class action cases against our privacy being sold off without consent. A couple of big lawsuits will make them change the way the fleece us. Cause right now they are doing it and no punishment besides a statement telling people hey at least your financial information was compromised.

Reality this is probably going to get worse soon. Nothing stopping companies from buying stolen information obtained by hackers or malicious groups.

This reminds me of when the Home Depot shared all its “Pro account” details to the CRA without warrant. Just handed all purchasing data details of all account holders to CRA for a fishing expedition by the Revenue Agency. This company has no care or concern over your data privacy. I hope they choke on all their material overstock this year.

Lowes feels like the walmart of home repair stores, granted they have that red brand that's usually super cheap but seems to be acceptable quality.

Home Depot seems to have more retired tradesmen, at least where I am.

You might not, most of people though would… so would I… impact (probably what you meant) is that data hungry harvester leeches are building your profiles and presenting skewed information to you on your social media platforms to shift your opinion for more socially important things in path of least resistance for your character/personality type that serves them best. Have you looked at Cambridge Analytica and Facebook doings for last 5 years or so, if not - read about it - quite interesting stuff there.

And that’s why I never give companies my email address when they ask for it.

Even companies that promise never to sell your data or send you spam will ultimately let the honey pot of capitalism win over their morals.

Three years ago I bought a vacuum from a mom-and-pop shop in my town. They asked for email because they wanted to email me if any recalls got issued for the vacuum I bought.
Low and behold, 2 months ago I started getting ‘newsletters’ from them.

You cannot trust literally anyone with your information at this point.

I’m nearly at the point of replacing my email with a bunch of different accounts, so that data brokers and marketing companies have more difficulty establishing a comprehensive profile on me.
