Comes as no surprise. What's surprising is that the West (and the rest of the world, really) is so happy to adopt this mentality and social approach, as well as to buy this type of tech. Looks like we will learn the hard way how preposterous this can be.

Im surprised we haven’t. Like international cities (e.I. New York City) are using similar technology. Outside influence and capital will change a lot in a city. It won’t be wide spread but I am genuinely shocked America isn’t doing this.

The report finds that Chinese companies lead the world in exporting face recognition, accounting for 201 export deals involving the technology, followed by US firms with 128 deals. China also has a lead in AI generally, with 250 out of a total of 1,636 export deals involving some form of AI to 136 importing countries. The second biggest exporter was the US, with 215 AI deals.

I honestly read this as some kind of competition we're trying to recognize is the world's biggest face. Like a person with a giant face.

Lol China doesn't need TikTok for face data. You do realize there are already billions of hours of picture and video with people's faces already on the internet?

By exploiting both it's own people, effectively enslaving them to siphon money from the west through it's greedy corporations all too willing to turn a blind eye for even more obscenely high profits.

Then again I suppose most everyday citizens don't give enough of a damn to forego buying the latest iphone just because it has the blood of innocent chinese workers who killed themselves rather than continue to face the working conditions of their factory on it. Can't only blame the companies.

Consumers are just as much to blame. Americans love their apple products and as long as they demand them, a supply will follow basic economics.
