I guess when you don’t have a domestic tech industry, the next best thing is to fine everyone else’s.

After reading the article, I don't know which specific practices were deemed illegal.

Apple profit (not revenue) last quarter was $20.7B

So for ~90 days they made 230 million dollars per day

So for each hour they made 9.5 million dollars per hour

So 1M euros (=1.06M$) took them 0.11 hours

... or about 7 minutes, if you round up.

At some point Apple's going to have to start buying more couches to stuff money down the back of to pay these piddling little fines, or "the cost of doing business" as it's known...

This is nothing, but if the EU gets involved the fines could be as high as 4% of total global revenue.

That is the equivalent of charging an average US citizen about $3.60 for continuing to commit a crime for an entire year.

Now it creates a precedent and puts the app store monopoly in question, which Apple can't be happy about.

That’s like 0.002% of the cash they have on hand.

It probably cost more to file this lawsuit than the actual fine. That doesn’t seem very effective.

Now please if you could pay the fine in iPhones

Or they can say we've been investigated and they found only minor issues that we've fixed since then. We also paid the million dollar fine so we really learned out lesson
