What if we did something useful with all of that data they scrape instead of trying to use it to manipulate us into buying more crap we don't need?

Not an expert on data collection and ethical data use, all I know is that instead of getting a dozen ads for prenatal vitamins when Big Data suspects you might be pregnant, there are a whole lot of other useful resources that might benefit someone in such a circumstance.

Big data only suspects you're pregnant when you already know

Not entirely, big data should be able to extrapolate changes in your activity and make reasnoble assumptions. Big data is 100% rational/logical and has no emotions tied to its decision making, it has idetic memory and will never forget something, and can VERY easily track your standard patterns and identify/track deviations from it.

Im not saying Bid Data will always know every time for everyone, but just disagreeing with the fact that Big Data will only know after you start searching for pregnancy/child related items.
