This is incorrect.

If you’re not posting your life on instagram, can you really say you’re really living? Curious.

I'm an avid user of Reddit because I prefer to read articles and consider the information presented

But I've never had the urge to share my life via social media. It's great for me if I go see the Pyramids but why would anyone else care that I went?

Social media is a product that mostly invented its own demand. The ultimate bootstrap paradox

I remember when you went on vacation and other people sped away in their vehicles when you offered to show them photos of you in front of some monument or natural wonder...and then of course share photos of the hotel lobby, the rental car agency and the gas station you stoped in to buy a slushy

I'm the same I don't use Twitter, Facebook, instagram and use discord and Reddit only plus I'm ugly those posting pictures of myself sound counterproductive. But I'm basically asocial.

I use this almost verbatim when I explain to people why I didn't take a picture.

"Erm, I don't know? Because I was busy enjoying the moment and taking it all in?"

"That's silly. How will you remember?"

I don't understand people.

moosemasher t1_ivg0nbw wrote

That still largely happens, people uploading photos with the idea that all of their followers/friends care enough to look through them all. They still don't get looked at largely, or at least not to the extent that the people uploading them think they do. Take reddit for example, few people read the articles submitted, they just want to spout off in the comments.

When I went to see Lady Gaga's ArtRAVE in Houston a few years back, at one point Gaga pulled a bunch of teenagers out of the audience to join her on stage and dance

And all of them were having the time of their lives

Except this one fucking kid who immediately took out his phone and started taking selfies and I think livestreaming from his phone. Not interacting with Gaga, or the crowd. Literally on stage with Lady Gaga in front of thousands of people and the only thing he could see was his phone screen.

I think about that kid a lot. What a fuckin' tool.

That's either a lot of drinking, a lot of social media, or both. Also lol at the classic "I am announcing to Instagurn/Fartbook that I am quitting social media," and then letting us know it was her most liked post. I am glad she can have a cup of tea now without letting the world know, though she has just let the world know that she can have a cup of tea without letting the world know.

Give us a life where we can afford things like housing, vehicles and maybe a fucking family... You know why some people value things like social media or video games more then they really should? Because its all they have.

I love my family but without them when the go this rat race slavery life we're slowly getting pushed into will be down one less human because we were not born FOR capitalism we were born into it and it's a fucking cancer sliding us into facism

I don't know, I come back from trips after posting photos and videos of what I have seen and always get quite a few people saying how they love seeing all of the photos of my travels because they will likely never get to go to these places.

I've found over the years that a lot of people live vicariously through the photos I take, at first It made me sad because they should be out there living life and experiencing things first hand but now I have realized not everyone can for one reason or another so I keep posting, for me it isn't showing off or that I have an expectation that people will see and "like" a photo...it's really for those who enjoy seeing it and also as a memory bank for me...I have a terrible memory so I take a lot of photos of what I experience and can experience it all again when I see the photo in the future

I got really into posting my art and music on IG but at some point it started messing with my head. If a piece I posted didn’t get a certain amount of likes I questioned why it didn’t do as well as the last post. Then I found myself producing work for the wrong reasons, chasing likes. And what the fuck can you do with likes anyways? Can’t pay my rent with them or buy food. So I had this idea that I would sell the art piece for the amount of likes it got…but then I just decided to stop posting and go live in the real world. Much happier now.

That aside, the lady didn’t like posting on IG so she posted on BBC instead.

Also I didn't read article, mainly because I know its going to be someone posting their life on a platform about them not wanting to post their life on a platform

Because you have family and friends that like to see what you are doing? If my friends visited the pyramids I'd like to see a picture. I guess having people they like in their lives is a foreign concept to Redditors

"But I don't care what my aunt whatever is doing". Then don't follow them, let me know if you need instructions

Though for pictures of my kids, I use a shared album on Google photos. They don't need to be public.

We had family in town last week and we scrolled through years of Google photos and videos on the family room TV. No social media needed. Was a blast. I personally don't think I'll ever go back to Facebook or Instagram. I think social media can be utilized for businesses, but most of that use is super artificial and may not align to the actual experience presented.
