Possibility of leaking fuel injectors allowing fuel to accumulate outside of the combustion chamber.

Definitely not good.

At least they reduce engine output automatically if pressure drops are detected.

InvalidUserNemo t1_ixp6x50 wrote

You can’t possibly be struggling with this. Pirates comment makes no claims about the article, EVs or Ford’s abilities to repair them. You made the claim that anything critical of Musk or his Stans means they’re anti-EV and pro Big Oil. You pulled that outta nowhere and that is the comment I’m trying to say is not factual based on the comment you replied to for this thread.

It took Tesla 17 years before they turned a profit. To this day they still lose money on every car they sell.

The only reason the are profitable is because they sell emissions credits. But once other manufacturers (like ford) figure out how to make EV’s like they do ICE’s, they will probably be back to where they were before.

Edit: they blocked me lmao

Lol suure bud.

  1. Tesla has been turning massive profits for multiple years

  2. that’s already a moved goal post. The last decade has been “just wait until legacy manufacturers enter the market”. But they can’t even turn a profit on EVs. Let’s also just go ahead and ignore that Tesla is one of the primary reasons battery prices have even been driven low enough for the legacy manufacturers to enter the market.

I’m done arguing with you since you don’t even posses a basic grasp of the EV market

The Bronco Sport (what's recalled) is not at all the same as the Bronco (not recalled). The Sport is built off the Escape chassis while the actual Bronco uses a ladder frame construction.

They are literally two entirely different vehicles that happen to share the same name.

Somewhat larger. 2.3L base. 2.7L available. And in the Bronco Sport: 1.5L, 2.0L available.

Really hard to tear down people on here for a stupid thing Ford did.

Naming the Bronco Sport that was designed to create a confusion (association) with the other Bronco. Ford is reaping what they sowed.

−1

hcwhitewolf t1_ixpn77q wrote

That may be true, but you have some semblance of a chance to put out an engine fire with a fire extinguisher. Aint nothing stopping a battery fire and the whole vehicle will be fully involved in like 20 seconds.

You get in a serious wreck in an EV where the battery is compromised and you are trapped, you are just 100% fucked.

Edit: EV simps out hard today. Battery fires are very aggressive and fire departments have been struggling to extinguish them with full equipment. You can't deny that there is an inherent danger to EV battery fires. You can simp all you want for them, but it's a challenge that will need to be overcome with more and more EVs on the road.

robbak t1_ixpwv2j wrote

That's mostly what they are doing - a software update to throw a code and force the car into limp-home mode when it detects a fuel leak. They are also adding drain pipe to direct leaking fuel away from likely ignition sources.

They are not replacing the dodgy fuel injectors that are the cause of the problem.

robbak t1_ixpx3ry wrote

So, forcing the vehicle into limp-home mode if it detects a leak, and adding a pipe. Replacing the dodgy fuel injectors isn't part of the recall.

So did the Ford Pinto. It came out in a lawsuit that the bean counters at Ford said to recall it would cost more than just dealing with the lawsuits which is why it took so long to get them off the road or fixed. I remember that now every time they finally issue a recall.

Former Automotive engineer. This just isn’t true. Recalls are triggered by the government in many cases. I once had my personal car’s sun visor recalled because when any fault is present in over X amount of vehicles it triggers a mandatory recall. Similarly, they must recall anything overtly dangerous if im recalling my experience with Fiat-Chrysler’s law department correctly.

Ps. This system was also Tesla’s saving grace because they were so low volume for so long. Now, not so much.

LazloHollifeld t1_ixr4kfd wrote

The part I liked was they said there was no need for customers to stop driving them or parking them indoors. The risk for fire after the vehicle had been turned off is minimal, there has only been 15 fires and 3 had included secondary damage to structures.

Twenty percent chance of a structure fire seems a little more than minimal.

Go to the dealer, drop the car off and they fix it for free. I’d certainly make an appointment and if you’re lucky they’ll have a loaner for you. It’s pretty easy and I can’t think of a single new car that I’ve had in the last 10-15 years that hasn’t had a least one recall of some sort. No biggie but, yeah, it’s annoying.

Ford sold 91,903 Bronco Sport in 2022. (From Jan - Oct 2022). Ford sold 26,965 Bronco Sport in 2021. That means that there are approximately 118,868 that are in the scope of this recall. Assuming all 15 fires were in fact the result of faulty injectors, .013% of broncos burned because of this issue.
