If you supplied me the car and insurance and I never had to worry about driving my car - delivering pizzas in the correct town isn't the worse part time job to have.

I did it when I was young, the biggest problem was wear and tear on my own car. It's hard to keep up the Maintenace on a car that is getting driven hundreds of in town miles and feel like you are earning any money.

What is really gonna happen with this scheme:

These cars are gonna be down for maintenance more then they are up and the drivers are gonna have to driver there own personal cars.

Electric cars have very little maintenance and city driving is not as bad for them as for ICE cars. Tire rotation/changes will be the only major item. This is probably a major reason why they are doing this. It is far more predicable than ICE cars.

Regen braking with lots of in city driving is perfect...

Not to mention when they're idling / waiting for delivery, they can be plugged in

No point in even turning them off because they only pull about 1-2 kw idling in winter

65 kwh battery, 15 min wait for the next delivery at around 50 kw means 20% charge or around a 50 mile range

Your car = $2.80/hr + tips

Our car = “car benefit” + $0.80/hr + tips

They’ll find a way to expense the cars

As they should. It still opens a lot of opportunities for people without reliable cars, and tips make up the most of the money for delivery drivers anyways.

Minimum wage will still apply. I'm not sure why you think it wouldn't.

The company that owns the dominos in my area cares 0% for their drivers. I was promised a certain wage while driving and after withholding my pay stubs for 2 months I found out they were under paying me. They did this to a bunch of drivers but the lawyer I spoke with said I didn't work there long enough for it to make a difference to sue. So I quit on the spot.

The location I was at went through 4 store managers in the 2 months I worked there because of how poorly they treated their staff.

Their cars will mean nothing to them.

Bingo.

A hypothetical for you.

I get hired in as a driver with the promise of zero miles on my personal car.

They have 2 electric cars. One is in the shop.

They are getting absolutely slammed and the other driver has the electric car..........

My point is entirely that delivering pizzas is not a bad job as long as you are not using your personal car. Zero miles on your personal car. No really, if you are up against the wall quit. Zero miles.

But like you pointed out - management at all these places is a high pressure shit show. And the people with those jobs where not smart enough to turn the jobs down.
