Reply to comment by hackerboi in Apple to Samsung to Google, here's when the 5G software update will arrive on your phone by max-venum

I imagine that the 5G it comes supported with isn't the full 5G spectrum. So the update should be telling the radio control firmware to operate on the full spectrum, and then carrier updates can pear that down with a list that the handset can operate on for the carrier in that region.

Ok, but tell me, if a person buys an iPhone or a Samsung device in India and travels to country where 5G is available, would he be able to use 5G.?
Edit: aren’t 5G bands standardised? And devices are made with the capability to support most common or most of the bands.
It sounds really weird that Indian iPhones need a special update to work with Indian 5G networks.
I recently travelled to south east Asia and used 5G on Samsung and apple devices, with their local sim. However here in India it’s like waiting for an update from either the carrier or the oem.

Yes, if the carrier uses 5G bands that your iPhone supports.
5G bands are standardised, but not all carriers will use the same set of bands.
