Microsoft basically doesn't really care about how profitable Windows is. As long as they get Windows on HP,Dell,Lenovo,Acer Laptops And Pre-built PC.

Microsoft needs to completely rewrite a new OS and not bring over legacy files from previous version and make the new one so bloated.

i run linux on my all amd gaming desktop, flawless experience with proton, I wouldn’t have it any other way… but my laptop with a 3070 desperately needs Windows to run at its best potential (thanks nvidia)

Windows SUCKS. The only reason people finally can do something about it is because webapps have filled in the software gaps for many people.
Why pay for an OS that’s just as buggy as Linux especially when windows support forums are a joke. Oh, it’s got spyware and ads? Cool! (Gamers excluded in this convo until steam decks take over)

I work in tech, I manage my own home network, I have network level tools that track many different things, and unchecking those boxes actually does disable the tracking metrics. But, you're an idiot with a "I bought a samsung device and cant remember my google password" level of understanding of tech, so its OK that you're an ignorant pissant.

I switched to Zorin OS for the first time last year and it was flawless for the games I played as well. No problems with proton, some games even run native. As I became more familiar I installed Ubuntu 22.04 last month and it is even better. Many of the bugs of 20.04 are fixed. It's good to have updates that don't focus on spying on you even more but actually fix your problems. Tho the Zorin UI imo is way more convenient.

Not that easy for everyone. Especially dual gpu laptops, which I’m guessing this person has. My laptop has integrated graphics and an nvidia card, and the graphics switching even with restarts works very poorly. Just a bunch of ACPI errors on boot. I stick to integrated instead, which I don’t care about because I don’t really game on a laptop.
I would appreciate suggestions for fixes, but I’ve had this laptop more than five years and tried every fix I could for the stupid nvidia gtx 940m

It's not like there's much choice in desktop OS space. Sure, there's macOS, but not everybody is prepared to pay Apple money for a laptop, and there's Linux, but it's quite slow in getting more user-friendly, I don't see regular consumers jumping to it from Windows. At the same time, post-pandemic low PC sales make complete sense
BoricPenguin t1_itug00k wrote
Well yeah PC parts and computers keep getting more and more expensive.
Also while I like windows 10 and use it, windows 11 is a insult to PC users in my opinion, it's like they didn't learn anything from why 8 failed.
Not to mention how many people really need a PC? Like let's be honest they don't and that's part of the problem, PCs can only grow so much.
Time-Opportunity-436 t1_ituiuvu wrote
Windows isn't hit by 'weak PC sales' or 'Linux'. Sales appear lower because sales were very high in the pandemic, which is over. And Microsoft profits as a whole aren't down, they make many more products and services.

That sounds optimistic. I once worked at a company that's still running a DOS-based invoice software, which was coded by some random student in the 80s for his finals.

My last PC I built in 2011 with a 2600k. I had been longing to play some of the newer games and it was time to build a new PC. Prices for components in August were perfect. After extensive research I settled on a 12600 non k. Reason being was I hated the new thread director needs Windows 11 to function properly. Sadly I think this is the last gaming PC I will build.
I feel old.
axis1331 t1_itv2yvz wrote
This is exactly it! Most people replace their pc every 3-5 years, but because everyone did it at different times sales generally averaged out.
Covid changed that cycle. Between the demands of remote work/school, employee tech stipends, and government stimulus a huge portion of the market upgraded early. Now there is going to be a natural lull for the next 2ish years until people need to start upgrading again.

I just replaced my 7-year-old 4th-gen Intel PC with a 13th-gen custom build, and it is awesome. But it came with Windows 11, which is absolutely horrible. Nothing is where it used to be, and finding things often requires a Google search to know what Microsoft renamed it so I can search in Windows Settings. It really wants me to integrate my computing with Microsoft services that I don't want anywhere near my device and is super pushy about it.
So yeah, I only replaced my PC because it was ancient and I'm a gamer. I would have not replaced it otherwise, and it was running fine. They are going to struggle with this because changing things around to justify a new version number and SKU isn't going to land with customers.

What benefits does Windows 11 offer the user? It has similar performance benchmarks to 10, and just shuffles around the UI in ways that absolutely nobody was asking for.
It seems to solely exist for the benefit of Microsoft, not the user. So what's the point?
If I buy a new product, it's because it does something better than the old one, has desirable new features, etc. But if a product comes along with no discernible benefit to me, then what's the point? Why even make it in the first place?
BoricPenguin t1_itvqp01 wrote
I think current and last generation Intel(it may also help ARM CPUs but I could be wrong on that) parts you will lose some performance on Windows 10 due to Windows 11 handling big and small cores better then 10 and that's it I think.
Frankly Windows 11 isn't bad it's just 10 but a bit worst and that's why for me it's so insulting! Everything they added or changed in 11 could've just been a update for 10 maybe two it wasn't much, but instead they called it a new OS and want users to install a new OS..o and it's also worst in many ways.
