How do you regulate engagement algorithms without government censorship? Don’t you know what that leads to?

I can see this getting support while requiring ID for porn gets criticized.

Wait are you really trying to argue that prioritizing and giving special treatment to SOME content because it gets higher engagements is LESS censorship than just getting rid of the algorithm? What?

There will always be an algorithm. For social media feeds, it could be minimal, like bookmarks, but then you still need to decide what order to present items in, and just gets more complicated from there.
Perhaps exposing why a particular item is being presented to you and allowing you to modify that behaviour could allow users better control, but that would get very complex (for the user) very quickly.

This is just going to have kids sneaking to do it anyways. Why not... just regulate social media companies and make them less toxic for everyone? If we regulated engagement algorithms alone that would have the biggest impact. Instead we get empty legislation.
