There are so many better places that will get less damage and wear to place them. Put these right along solar roadways, useless. Even just using the places right next to the railroad track instead of literally in the center of it would be 100x better.

Example parking lots.. and it would be more beneficial then just the power it would make.. example keeping cars in shade and cool, and provide cover during storms.

Yeah this seems silly. It’s like they never looked at train tracks before coming up with the idea

Exactly. I imagine the dirt they accumulate in such a position would reduce their efficiency by rather a lot, rather quickly.

swiss train track density is very high. the track system is very well maintained and it's easy to feed energy from those tracks back into the system as swiss train tracks also have energy and fibre lanes right next to them.

Wow, euronews on stupidity roll. I've just seen an article about hydrogen supersonic jet from Switzerland. I guess they employ gullible idiots.

Oh God. Not another solar roadways scam.

Who funds these terrible ideas.

Solar panels on hats. Gimme some finding please.

the toilets on trains are basically just a hole in the floor. these panels will be covered in human excrement rather quickly.
And dust, a lot of dust.

toilets in swiss trains no longer are a hole to the outside they all operate chemical toilets and capture content in canisters. not everyone is using ancient train tech.

sybarius t1_jedmfi6 wrote

I wasn't aware of that.

Come to think of it, it must have been more than 10 years ago when i last used a toilet on a train.

yeah. these things changed, i remember the old days and the pleasant smell at stations if someone took a dump.

biggest concern i see with this rollout/rollin solar carpets other than it proving to check all technical concerns would be the importance train track gravel has come to play as biome for small wildlife. surveys have shown a surprisingly vast amount of animals and insects having adopted to the special conditions at train tracks, especially small reptiles.
