True but wtf is up with our back and forth weather lol
Cloud_Disconnected t1_j3xnp80 wrote
It needs to get way colder than that for at least two weeks, otherwise spring and summer are going to be hell for ticks and mosquitoes.

"Are you new here?" ....if so. Welcome to the Midwest. If you don't like the weather wait 5 mins, it will change!

I've been here since 99...it's been like that here since then.
My FiL has lived here his whole life and doesn't remember a what everyone considers 'normal' winter.
It's always up and down...warm Christmas's and then snow on New Years or Vice Versa...an oddly warm winter then snowy spring....the Ozarks get the weird.

Lmao yeah that’s definitely our state motto cuz show me ain’t lol. No it’s just more prominent this year

"Show me," means that you can tell me what you want but I won't believe it until you show me. It's extremely apt given Missouri's weather, it can look like a sunny day today, but you better not believe it's sunny tomorrow until you see it with your own eyes, show me the sun....
Cloud_Disconnected t1_j3y0l5g wrote
Is it? It's kinda hard to tell when it's 65° outside.

I already bought one at Skaggs. It must be a numbered, limited edition because it says "1988" on the front.

It’s a state in the middle of the continent with a temperate climate. With no major mountains in between the cold Arctic and the warm and humid Gulf of Mexico. Temperature swings will always be normal, can you people please stop acting like this is some weird crazy thing. I’ve lived in Missouri for probably 70% of my life, happens every year, nothing new. Y’all have the memory of goldfish.

That’s a myth.
Cloud_Disconnected t1_j3z09t0 wrote
It's a myth that ticks are inactive all winter. You can still pick up ticks in the winter if the weather is warm enough.
But sustained cold weather does decrease the population.
JonnyG24 t1_j3z2ocx wrote
It’s more about the frequency, timing etc of weather. Warm to cold swings and frequency of cold dips effect ticks. Freezing temperatures for two weeks straight doesn’t really change anything.

Every Midwest state is like this. It's kind of funny cause some natives of their city that haven't traveled think it's totally unique to their city and they have theories about it (like that something in the water is to blame or whatever)
Has anyone else felt like this winter has felt like mid spring mostly? 60s 70s 60s.
It snowed like 100 inches in Buffalo and then warmed up so fast they had flash flood warnings less than a week later. Just doesn't seem right to me. I would have expected 40s and 50s. Not 70s.

Lol, this is just the traditional "January Thaw." Warms for just long enough to fool all the plants to start to bud out, then WHAM! the icy blast of winter.
We can't have nice fruit!
