any time trader joes sends someone to scout out springfield, an assassin takes them out and tells them

"mama jean sends her regards"

Haha I always think more or less along the same lines now.

The area would be PERFECT for a Trader Joe's and have sent in multiple requests over the years and nothing. I mean, the nearest TJs in multiple directions are 3 hours away. Geographically alone it's in a prime spot.

They'd make a killing here with their specific stuff and at this point someone has got to be blocking them for TJs to still not be in Springfield.

They aren't concerned with filling in gaps. They are looking for markets with specific attributes, and we are much too poor and uneducated.

We're much more of an aldi market. Its probably the closest thing this poor town will get to their sister company, Trader Joe's.

They're not in Columbia either... Talk about a place that's really perfect with all the liberals.

Nah, I’ve heard this too. I’ve heard their staff is very cult-like. Not sure why you’re getting downvoted

Sally_twodicks t1_j2pv9xq wrote

I really could care less. It's easy to downvote when you are a rich asshole who shops there. Must be nice, none of us could.

We don't have a Trader Joe's because Springfield doesn't have enough people with advanced degrees or expensive houses.

This article is about a different city, but it explains what they look for in a new market. https://www.mcall.com/business/mc-biz-why-trader-joes-hasnt-opened-lehigh-valley-store-20190828-7icd2wpj25ezblyaci6ocoxsy4-story.html

I’ve lived in Northwest Arkansas for the last year, and it’s bougie AF and still doesn’t have one. Hoping that changes soon.

Having a Costco helps Springfield in the TJ’s department tho, bc they look at similar demographics. There’s also a TJ’s in Little Rock, and I’m curious about their distribution path as noted in the article. Wonder if there’s some sort of central location between NWA, Springfield and Little Rock that makes sense, or if however Tulsa/KC gets distro would support.

I'm way pro-union, but sounds like they'd fit in perfectly in SGF then.

I’m not saying don’t try…we have the first Buccees in MO coming and several whataburgers…but we have a Whole Foods in NWA closer than the closest TJ’s in Tulsa/KC/STL.

And another Whole Foods is coming to Rogers, so that’ll save you 15 minutes from going to Faye. If you’ll bring me Kirkland booze from Costco, I’ll bring you whatever you need from Whole Foods. Joplin meetup 😂

Sent a request in as well. I literally know multiple people who will make shopping trips a few times a year.

Didn't think Trader Joe's was all that. Then a coworker brought me a bottle of Dill Pickle seasoning that her son sent her. I'm officially hooked and I wanna see what other delicious creations I've been deprived of.

I absolutely love it! We take trips every few months to stock up.

My husband and I have been talking about making a trip to a town with both Whole foods and a Trader Joe's. Lol we have peeked in marriage 😂🤣

Whole Foods is awesome but pricey! If you have no dietary restrictions then it’s awesome, as someone who does and the food is even more pricey not so much lol The KC Trader Joe’s on Ward Parkway is by far my favorite out of the Tulsa/KC/STL locations.

Their seasoning blends are amazing. The mushroom umami is my favorite and I put that on everything.

caleeksu t1_j2nsooy wrote

Moved to NWA in the last year, and there’s a company that goes to TJ’s twice a month to bring back to town. Could be a decent side hustle for someone that goes to KC or Tulsa frequently?

They charge $15 iirc for the first 15 items, then $1 for each additional.

As long as we have Mama Jean’s, we will never have a Trader Joe’s. They’re the ones blocking it every time.

mcnew t1_j2lox6m wrote

Has anyone at mama jeans ever been inside a Trader Joe’s? They wouldn’t hardly be competitors.

Whole Foods, for sure, but Trader Joe’s serves a different niche.

Renn_1996 t1_j2n01bu wrote

That is not true. They won't come to springfield because of demographic issues. We don't have high enough income or education for them to want to build here
